The problem wasn’t that the lightsabers didn’t cut deep whenever it was clearly just a graze. Grazes are a thing, they can happen, and that’s fine. The real problem is that every cut in the entire trilogy was a graze.

If it was just one graze here or there it would have been ok. The originals and prequels had a couple of “grazes” in them that didn’t cause serious damage. In the sequel trilogy, however, the characters ONLY ever graze each other with just the very tips of their lightsabers. It’s as if they’re always intentionally NOT using their ultra-destructive white-hot laser swords to lop off limbs and skewer enemies, as one logically would if they were trying to win in a fight. I guess one of the new force abilities in the sequels is also the “Fourth Wall Break”, where everyone is in on the meta enough to know that they need to always gently wound each other for the sake of plot armor and Disney non-violence.
