Install BetaFlight on CC3D

This is a quick video to show how to flash BetaFlight on a CC3D. I've had a couple of people ask about it. It is a lot easier to show the process than it is to explain it.

Hi Travis, as usual great informative videos!

You can get Cleanflight to connect WITHOUT a battery plugged into the CC3D after you have flashed it with CleanFlight or BetaFlight.

The trick is to plug the usb cable to the CC3D usb port just enough (not all the way in) so it powers the board and then wait for the blue status light to go from solid to blinking, AND THEN you can push the USB cable all the way in . Go to CF and hit connect and do the usual tweaking stuff.

This is great because it doesn't have a LiPo battery powering up the motors, and risk spinning up by accident. And very convenient when you are in the field tuning the PIDs.


You might want to do a video on this procedure for everyone's benefit.

It works!!! I was about to put this board in the cemetery box but I am gonna give it a try again this time in BF. I hope this time it flies well. I had the original Cc3d OpenPilot firmware, then I flashed new fw in the dRonin but couldn't config as this is a F1 board and memory was an issue, flashed back another OP Firmware and it was flying worse than ever! I wanted to throw this board in the trash bin. Thank you so much. flashed the BF 3.1.7!

Betaflight worked so well on my CC3D. I'm able to run higher PIDs without the oscillations I was dealing with at lower PIDs on Cleanflight 1.10. I had to dial back to finally get my QAV 210 to run smooth before Betaflight.

on CC3D you don't need to power it externaly. All you have to do is plug usb in into either the cc3d or the computer (if connected to the cc3d on the other end) only just enough for the board to light up but not connect to the computer. Then wait like 3 seconds then plug it in all the way and whamo it connects EVERY time. If you flesh the HEX file via configurator then you don't need to do that at all for some reason. You will need a FTDI or the like to do that though.

Travis, the latest version available for download (version 3.0.1) has only the "betaflight_3.0.1_CC3D.hex", no OPBL file. Do you know if its ok to flash only this file on the board?

After flashing BetaFlight on a CC3D can you flash once again the software needed for LibrePilot and use LibrePilot again?

Hey Man. Install the vcp driver ( link on clean flight configurator home page) and you won't need to power it up anymore for it to connect.

Great video Travis! I've been thinking about doing a CC board on a budget build since it's cheaper than the naze. Im so accustomed to cleanflight though, I didn't want to.
What is your opinion on performance difference between the two boards if there is any?
