How to encrypt any drive in Ubuntu -The easy way -

In this video I demonstrate how you can easily encrypt a flash drive to protect you sensitive data from being accessed by others. This method can also be used to encrypt other storage devices such as flash media, internal and external hard drives.

NOTICE: You might have to restart your computer once you encrypt the drive if you encounter problems mounting it.

Hi just want to know. If you take this flash drive (Hard drive) to another Ubuntu machine or you reinstall your own Ubuntu can you still open the encrypted container or is this bound to your specific OS that you have installed on your machine, like windows Bitlocker or is it more like Truecrypt

@C3nsoredGFX Ok, but Recuva can go around the index and search the files directly on the HDD.
I haven't tried it with Truecrypt, but i will, maybe next weekend.

I could not do this in 14.04 as disk utilities is gone and now called "disks" which has no encryption options. So I had to get an old ubuntu live cd that had disk utilities to follow this tutorial. and then it worked. thanks :  )

@C3nsoredGFX The files aren't encrypted, ONLY THE INDEX.
I've been saying that all the time!
When you go around the index and read the files directly you need no password, but i will make a vid next weekend then you will see.

And we need strong encryptions that encrypt the files for countrys where is suppression to fight for their human rights and their freedom.

This doesn't encrypt the hard drive, only the index of it!
You can format your stick on windows and restor the "encrypted" files with recuvva.
Done in 15 minutes.
This is not save!
