Silica Gel Uses

SUPPLIES
Silica gel packets (found in shoe boxes, electronics, and many Asian snack foods)

INSTRUCTIONS
If your phone ever gets wet, place it in a plastic bag full of silica gel packets, and leave it overnight. The packets will dry out your phone better than rice, and increase the chances of saving your phone!
You can use the silica gel packets to de-clump salt, sugar, or any other ingredients that tend to clump up when moisture gets to them.
Tape a packet or two to the inside of bulk snacks. This will keep them from going stale longer.
Keep old photos and documents safe and dry in storage boxes by throwing in a couple silica gel packets.
Need to pack a damp swimsuit? Place it in a bag with a bunch of silica gel packets (the more the better!) and throw it in your bag. The water will be sapped right out. (This is also great in gym bags!)
Windshield fogging up? Save time by lining your dashboard with silica gel packets. The moisture will be whisked away.
To recharge your packets, place them in the oven at 275ºF/135ºC on an aluminum foil-lined baking tray for about an hour, or use a dehydrator if you have access to one! Enjoy these tips, and remember to dehydrate them again every few months.

Me and my brother used to open them and throw them at people from our bedroom window... So that's one way to use it !

Does anyone else have a weird phobia of these things? Please don't let it be just me...

My parents taught me instead that if the salt wasnt coming out of the salt shaker to use a few grains of rice so it can break the clumps down and absorbs moisture. Anyone else or just me? okay maybe just me

Unrelated story, but when I was four, I wanted to eat some seaweed in those plastic box package thingys. I asked my sister to get a box for me (because I was too short to reach it) and I was happy eating my seaweed on the couch. My sister didn't remove the silica gel package like my mom did whenever she gave it to me. So, being the curious little four-year-old I was, I ripped open the silica gel package and started eating the stuff. My mom came over to sweep the floor, she noticed tiny little white bead things on the floor and saw me holding the ripped silica gel package. Of course, she panicked and told my sister to always remove the package before giving me the seaweed. Everyone in my family was panicking and my mom made me drink some warm honey lemon tea in hopes of...I don't know what they were hoping, but they were trying to make me better. While they were all around the house freaking out, I was just sittin' there dumbly like "Why y'all panicking like that?"

Never throw them away. Glove box, fuse box, onion powder, sock drawer, bathroom vanity, shoe rack, box of photos. It goes on and on. A little gift when you buy those new shoes.

I knew someone who ate one and they threw up an hour later. They threw up blue, bright blue. Not sure that they aren't harmless.... :/

When your phone doesn't turn on when you drop it, it probably means that the battery is dead.

Anyone know what these are actually for in the first place. I mean like when you get them on the packaging it says just to throw them away so what's the point of putting them in the package?

Call me crazy but I think an anhydrous salt reacting into a hydrate would be pretty dangerous when consumed... more than just a choking hazard
