Dutch far-right leader Wilders rides Turkey row wave

The diplomatic row between Turkey and the Netherlands is playing into the hands of the Dutch right wing.

Freedom Party leader Geert Wilders is enjoying growing support ahead of elections on Wednesday.

He wants the Netherlands out of the EU and Islam out of the country.

But some say his chances of success are slim.

Wilders isn't "far-right". He is left on a lot of things.

Erdogan benefits cause all he wants is too appear "strong" at home and this gives him a perfect image makeover of being a "strong leader". Meanwhile, Moscow benefits the most from a Wilders victory. So it's almost a guarantee the timing of this "dispute" is no coincidence. Putin asked his new-found buddy Erdogan to stir up trouble at the right time. Erdogan would rather have Putin as an ally now that the Union is almost dead.

The Dutch far right lost the 2017 elections. It won 13 percent of the vote, which is less than expected and is not in the ruling coalition at this time. The diplomatic row in question did not play into their hands to the extent that people had thought.

Turkey is much more powerful than Holland. Hopefully the Dutch will eat those words when push comes to shove.
