Why The Right-wing Won Big In Europe

"This year’s European Parliament elections saw a rightward turn, but the effect that will have on the bloc’s policies might be less significant than its impact on the internal politics of the European Union’s individual member states.

Case in point: French President Emmanuel Macron called a snap parliamentary election in his country because his party did so poorly, and the notorious far-right German party AfD won more seats than German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s Social Democrats did."

Well inflation, higher retirement age, low paying jobs, long hours at work, and high cost housing will allow advantage takers to make up stuff to protect the rich and their big businesses.

Macrons call was made purely out of personal self-interest. He is almost as self-indulgent as Justin Trudeau.

There is a very very good reason why people in Europe are turning to the right, it's essentially a one issue across almost every country, and that is the insane numbers of migrants arriving legally and illegally onto European shores. Example, Ireland in 2023 is population grew by 3.5% according to the EU that's almost 180000, 160000 of those were migrants, in 2022 the population grew by 1.9% those numbers are insane, no other English-speaking Western nation has seen such an increase. Sweden one of the most open societies in the world is now one of the most dangerous countries in the western world, because of the mass influx of Muslim migrants. Denmark wants Syrian refugees to leave because they do not integrate and are living off welfare, left leaning Donald Tusk a former EU commissioner and now president of Poland said "he will not accept refugees into Poland" what's the exception of ukrainians. So this may be uncomfortable for people on the left, but Europe wants to preserve their own culture and heritage and put a stop to the rise of the Islamic population.
The swing by the far-right could have been a lot bigger, only because a lot of incumbent party started to turn to the right and promised harsher migration policies.
If the eu doesn't stop migration into Europe, the next elections you'll see a far bigger swing to the far-right.

Another point is that the EU every year issue a plethora of laws and rules that make lives of the common Europeans much more complicatec and testricted. I am not poor and I don't live on a place with many immigrants but I am still pissed with the EU.

I live in Finland.
In our last election, the main right wing party won and formed coalition with the racist right wing party. It was followed by cuts to social services and physical/mental healthcare, ending tax breaks for middle-class and belligerent ignorance on what experts say on anything. Basically everyone hated it.
Then presidential elections came, and a member of the same right wing party was elected.
Then EU elections came, and the same right wing party collected majority of votes.

I am seriously losing hope here. People can't remember that the party they are now voting for was actively lying about it's agenda and hated by everyone just couple months ago.

I was in Spain visiting a friend when this happened, and for what they told me, is that a lot of people that are center/left voted Far right because they're the only ones that want to take care of the ilegal immigration problem.

It's really not so much a "right wing" shift than it is countries just getting tired of the brazen disregard for their culture. I was all for Europe and even the US taking in regmfigees...but there have been more than just a couple of incidents that truly make you rethink.

I'm so proud of the people of Sweden who, for the first time, voted so that the far right party that has plagued our country lost votes for the first time in 33 years. All the left wing parties including the green party got a huge upswing. Now, we have many problems in our country but going far right is the wrong way to go and people turned up and did the right thing. It was a big fu to our current government. 🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪

The European Parliament is largely influenced by lobbyists and has deviated too far from what voters find important. So a shift towards parties that say they will solve problems is a logical result.

Th effects of immigration on day-to-day life and immigrant destroyed communities is the defining issue and it will be in November 2024 in the US.
