I agree with 99% of this video but you got 1 major thing wrong, the ipod didn't revolutionize portable music, that honor goes to the "Walkman"... it walked so the ipod could run lol

Times changed. Sadly the IPOD did not. Last week I received my Hiby R4 Evangelion and I can honestly say I've fallen in love all over again. lol. I can't see myself going anywhere without this DAP. I know the R4 had its downfalls but whatever shortcomings that DAP might have. The extra $70 for the Evangelion made up for it. I can't think of a bad thing to say about this DAP so far. The sound, the battery, the fluidity of the UI are absolutely phenomenal and I'm going to use it and treat it like my baby until it's time for an upgrade but she'll always be the love of my life. hehe.

I have a LG V60 it sounds excellent with a 3.5mm jack connected to a pair of "Klpisch the Nines".

That's why we miss LG phones.

I recently in the last 2 years got into DAPS because I was frustrated about my music not sounding as good as my PC's sound card when going outside for my daily walks, to which my iPhone using wired headphones paired with any dongle DAC/Amp was missing the richness, clarity and dynamics that my soundcard gave to my music. I didn't even know what a DAP was when mentioned online and I got confused what it was but then I Googled it and finally found out it was Digital Music Player, my music has never sounded better listening to my music outdoors and I wish I got into DAPS sooner, even with my mid-fi headphones like the Focal Elegia and Celestee sound so good on my DAPS, I can't afford high end headphones or DAPS but my budget one's such as the Hiby R5 Gen II and Ibasso DX 170 sound really good to me even though if they're not up there with the very best of DAPS, in terms of sound quality.

Too ridiculously EXPENSIVE. There are many "Mid-Fi" options...that sound astoundingly great for portable audio. Don't overpay when you don't have to.

I have AK SE300 ($1000) and I'm happy with it. Then I got Hiby M300 ($200), just for the aptx Adaptive codec. Build night and day between the two. BUT both DAPs sounds equally good and I can't pass the blind test. I don't know what to make of this. . . Did we reach the soubd quality plateu, and we're paying premium just for the build?

I'm itching to pull the trigger on the Fiio M21....any ideas on that? If it's better than the R4? Also, not the sound loudness because I know it's plenty loud, but in terms of purely sound quality, will it match or surpass the audio quality from the new generation MacBook Pro M1 with that improved DAC? because the MacBook sounds fantastic, I want that sound quality in a portable form factor....I bought the Moondrop dawn pro only to be disappointed....would buying a Fiio KA17 and pairing with my iPhone work better or the M21? Any thoughts shared would be helpful...thanks in advance...

I’ll be honest, I just wanted something that could playback music and do it well without relying on streaming. I’m not an audiophile, but I do enjoy it when my tunes don’t sound like garbage.

Right now I’m rocking two DAPs. A modded Zune 30 at home and a Hiby M300 at work (because the Zune doesn’t handle ESD well, which I’m constantly encountering at work). I rock a pair of KZ Castor Pros with both of them and they both sound fantastic to me. And with a 1TB SD card in the M300, I can just sync it to my media server over WiFi without the need to transcode.

I could probably get by with just the M300. But I really like the old Zune. It’s a cool device that can still serve a practical purpose nearly 20 years later, and it means my M300 will always have a full battery to get me through a full work day.

Why I use a smartphone plus dac/amp instead of a dap?
I listen to a lot of electronic music that is often anonymous in a dj mix. I need Shazam and the Google equivalent to identify music which does not work with a speaker-less dap.

This was cool. My iBasso DX 300 died four mon=ths ago. My Audio 64 U12t is "lonely"! I am looking at the A&K Kann Ultra! Hopefully 🙂

Sony makes a camera centric smartphone, if they made a Dapp which I can make phone calls from I'd buy it in a heartbeat, I'm simply tired of carrying too much tech around on a daily basis.

I get why someone might get one of these. But for me, the interface and clickwheel of an ipod is near perfect. These are all touch screen and look like smartphones, they are huge also. I have ipod mini with 64gb mod playing 16 bit wav/alac cd and vinyl rips. Sound great to me!
Maybe when I come into some money..

It's a shame that Sony has volume capped their latest line of Walkmans like the A306 and the ZX707 ... as I don't care for ibasso or the way way overpriced A&K daps... goodness.. so I had to give up a warranty and import the ZX707 from Japan.. no volume cap... these guys selling at moon audio won't tell you that.. anyways the Japanese versions of these Walkman's sound incredible.
