A remarkable scientific discovery has been made in China.

Researchers say they have found the skull of what they believe is  a new species of human, which could be our closest evolutionary relative.

If confirmed, 'Dragon Man,' as he's been named, would replace the Neanderthals as our sister species.

Clive Myrie presents BBC News at Ten reporting by science correspondent Pallab Ghosh.

You wouldn't stand a chance if Dragon Man raised one massive eyebrow at you.

If you ever want to plunge yourself into a state of sorrow for the human race, go to a video like this and sort the comments by "Newest first".

Fun fact: you saw the guy who said sort the comments to newest first and you found this. The bad part is that he was true I just plunged into a state of sorrow for humanity

This looks more like a candidate for denisovans rather than a new species.

If you'd like to find more prehistoric humans, there are a lot of Neanderthals in the recent comments

It's depressing to see the "Newest First" comments. Tells a lot about society.

We've known about denisovans for ages, this isn't a ground breaking discovery. Homo ergaster split into two main lineages. One left africa early and separated again into Neanderthals in Europe and Denisovans in Asia, in fact some argue that Neanderthals and Denisovans should really be considered the same species. The other left Africa later and were homo sapiens.

Edit: I was wrong, replace homo ergaster with homo heidelbergensis.

If this guy raised his eyebrow at you he’d wipe out the Northern hemisphere.
