I just switched from AMSOIL 15w40 signature series max-duty to CASTROL 15W40 part synthetic CK-4, never bying AMSOIL again, over priced oil, now I can do 3 oil change with same amount of money I was spending on AMSOIL, I am impressed with CASTROL in cold start, it started (-15 here in calgary ) no problem and oil pressure gauge shows full pressure instantly. I put both new oil in a glass jar, put them in cold Temp over night flip them next morning both ran down in similar manners, it seems like its same oil in 2 different bottles.

Thank you for the video Nate. We can say Amsol is the best of the two only regarding the tests you executed. Anyway you should notice that an engine oil should address many other features like, for example the ability to disperse contaminants, the ability to prevent oxidation of metals, the stability of the ingredients over a certain period of time, the ability to deterge metal surfaces while lubing, the ability not to deteriorate plastic components inside the engine (or in the engine bay in case the oil is spilled over), the compatibility with the catalytic converter, the response of the oil when in contact with gasoline, diesel or water. For example you can use an oil that has zero wear on metals but when in contact with a small amount of water that oil turns into gelatine, whell that oil is useless. You measured how a brand new oil does perform. How well is this performance preserved when the oil is no longer new? Is it better to use Amsoil with a mileage of 10k on it or a Castrol with the same mileage? It is not easy to answer those questions but we should because we don't want reality to be distorted. The reason I and most others use AMSOIL is simply the seat of the pants test.. That's where it stands alone.. Additives can alter cold flow which may negatively effect other factors..

I remember hearing Castrol has esters in their oil. This mean that the oil clings onto the metal surfaces for long periods of times to reduce dry start wear. I've always been curious to try Castrol GTX Magnatec out so many oil I want to try out. Great video.

I’m not saying Castrol is better, but I have noticed since using Castrol, my engine is a lot quieter than when I used Valvoline. I’m thinking of trying amsoil

Why wasn't the signature series Amsoil used? If the cheapest line of oil being the O.E that Amsoil makes does this good. Think how good their signature series oil is.
