Motorcycle Tire Review: KNOBBY vs TRIALS vs HYBRID *CDSR*

In this video, I use my experience with the Dunlop D606, Metzeler 6 Days Extreme, Pirelli MT43 & MotoZ Mountain Hybrid tires to compare their strengths and weaknesses. Although I AM CLEARLY NOT a tire expert, it seems like getting to try these tires back to back in such a short period of time was a great opportunity to share my experience with each one. Also, during use of these tires I used regular tubes, tuff tubes and the Tubliss system to try out different PSI levels. Unfortunately, for dual sport use you cannot run 0 PSI because of the need to ride to / from the trail with some highway use.
*If you plan to comment on this video, make sure it is positive and/or helpful info for everyone to read.

I use trials tires.and you are 100% correct about a trials tire. You can go up stuff easy but you don't want to lean over to much are need to stop in a hurry .I've shot thru many of turns.

I've had a new MT43 sitting in the garage for 4 years now - I just can't get myself to put it on. One of these years... Great video, thanks for sharing your experience!

Excellent real-world review and very helpful covering the different terrain. You are not alone in recommending the hybrid for broad use capability. Plan to add that one to my tire selection next time I need a new one for the little KLX 300.

Great review, I have been riding for years and I am still confused as to what tire I should be using. There are so many pros and cons to each tire.

Having fun w old trials tires that came on my 350 exc-f while I wait for my hybrids to be delivered. Fun as hell on the rock slab climbs and hard packed trails. Hit some deepish sand in a tight turn and they don't know what to do. Good for practicing front wheel slides I guess.

Great Vid!!! I'd be interested to see you take the Motoz Desert H/T Tractionator or Motoz I/T Enduro for a run. I've been running the H/T in SoCal and Baja with some very impressive results, but thats coming from a Maxis Desert IT... and I am still eyeing the Motoz Hybrid. Thanks again.

Hey nice review. Choosing a duel sport tire is tough! You’re asking one tire to do many things.we need these real world reviews from folks like you. I live in Vermont, my trails are nice dirt with some rock and mud. I picked Kenda track master. We shall thanks man!

I’m thinking about getting trial tires for my crf230l. I don’t get to ride it much anymore so I wanted something I like the looks of.

Great video, I use the Pirelli trials and love it, but after watching this video I think I’m going to try the hybrid

Found it interesting that you felt the knobby did better on loose dirt.
I’ve run the Mtn Hybrid and Arena Gummy. That Arena is great multitasking tire. It’s also lighter than the Mtn Hybrid.
Here’s the crazy thing. A friend convinced me to get the Shinko 505. As soon as I got home I weighed it and being about 2 pounds heavier than the Arena I knew I would hate it. After a mile on some loose decomposed granite fire road I was shocked at how it hooked up where I normally spin. I just did a 250 mile 2 day ride across the Mohave desert and it was excellent when climbing anything but sandy hills. Also it was not responsive to quick blips of throttle in deep sand and whoops. The weight did make high speed turns harder but overall, if you haven’t tried one they’re low priced and worth the price of admission for most south west coast trails. Also, the 120 doesn’t seem to wear out or chunk like the 110 does.
If you get a chance, pick one up and find out why it’s hyped up so much. Cheers

On my 1981 XT500 and 2017 KTM500exc I have the Pirelli MT43 Trials tires and have no complaints! Great on the street and Great on Hard packed/rocky tails and hills, Good on soft and lightly loamy/sandy surfaces, poor performance in deeper sand and mud. Last long too!

Good solid review! I am about to try the MotoZ Hybrid and will mount it with the Neutech Tubliss liner. looks like it might work for me!

Good solid review. I just recently mounted the Hybrid. I did Morro Bay to Port San Luis via Turri Rd. and Perfumo Cyn. this afternoon. I was really pleased with how they did on the pavement. I still need to get them out on some trails though. I'm assuming on your test that the knobby tire wore the fastest for dualsporting, but how does the wear compare between the trials and the hybrid?
