China's Silent Invasion - With Professor Clive Hamilton

Clive's controversial new book, Silent Invasion: China’s Influence in Australia, almost went unpublished after three publishers pulled out citing fears of reprisals from Beijing. His warning that the Chinese Communist Party is engaged in a systematic campaign to exert political influence in Australia seemed vindicated before the book appeared. Published in February, Silent Invasion quickly became a best-seller and is being read in countries around the world that face a similar threat from a rising China under an increasingly authoritarian state.

Thank's Clive and Martin, every little bit of awareness on this subject is working towards better.Should do what the Chinese do, virtually no foreign ownership of property, these unconscionable etc Liberal National traitors are selling Australian's out even more and worsening the already bad situation where the country has one of the lowest home ownership rates in the world. They are doing it to bail out their desperate corporate buddies even more, especially the majority foreign owned private banksters, etc, trickle up wealth at its worst, get rid of them Australian's in your own best interests asap.

Don’t bite the hand that feeds you ? China are just doing business and we are about to find out who is feeding us...it is our fault not China’s, we are about to find out a hard lesson on sovereignty and how important it is to our national security to manufacture our own goods from within instead of being lazy and outsourcing.

Wow, Martin, i usually find you to be a very objective and always trying to keep away from political rhetoric. I'm amazed at this segment and interview coming from you. Great job, very brave and genuine.

The names need to be stated (uni vice chancellors) and the list of those 'unreliable' agents inked.

Clive Hamilton’s observation (when greater amounts of truth have been disclosed) the subtly disguised insinuation of divisive influence by both Russia and China have been quite successful in sewing tares in the fertile fields of patriotism in the good ‘ole USA. Admittedly, our own political bodies (and their agents) must bear a sizable portion of the blame for not only allowing, but also manipulating the disharmony prevalent in our society today. I am in my 88th year of living and–given the historical manifestations of ethic, cultural and racial biases in my country–I’ve never observed so factious a cultural antipathy equal to what we are now experiencing!

Andrew Forrest is correct that we need to put our Australian interests ahead of what we are asked to do by the US. Our economy would be down the tube, if we could not export to China.

Sorry, money talks, nothing will change, they will only get more influential.

Definitely has not been a “silent invasion”. China’s influence in Australia, particularly in regard to its economic contribution and power, has been overtly explicit. And we as Australians have been openly welcoming it and reeping the benefits and rewards of it for decades. There is a price to pay for that, which is what we see now with China’s massive influence over the state of our economy. They have so much power and sway over Aus economy that if they pulled out (ie property, exports, universities, agriculture) we would be hard pressed to recover. They on the other hand don’t really need Australia, we are only 24 something million. They don’t care if we don’t buy their exports, all they really need is our recourses which are owned by private entities, of which many major share holders are Chinese business interests, and friendly parties such as Twiggy. Moral of the story: we are in a situation now where we simply cannot bite the hand that feeds us at risk of complete economic disaster.

I feel so afraid of walking in the public nowadays as I felt like I could be physically intimidated or being shouted at just anytime as being an Asian. I guess Many may regard me as “the silent invader” to this country. Feel so sad and terrified after being shouted a filthy animals who eat bat last week just as I walked out of office building. I guess I will be in self lockdown for a longer period even after the restriction eases.
