Causality is a big theme in Berserk, specifically how humans are bound by causality regardless of their will. This is how the Idea of Evil (the effective god of the Berserk universe) controls people.

That's actually part of what makes Guts special. He shouldn't exist, he should have died with his mother, but because he didn't he's effectively a being outside of causality. Casca became one too when she and Guts escaped the Eclipse.

It’s insane to know that despite what Guts has went through, he still didn’t become a villain or completely insane from his experiences while most would.
