Capes! Who doesn't love that swishy, billowing, dramatic garment? Certainly not me, and certainly not the Victorians!

Not only did the Victorians up their dramatic game by wearing capes, it was in this era that the synthetic dye, mauveine, was created, allowing the garments to be made purple. So strap in, get some beautifully purple fabric, and let's make some capes while delving into the chemistry and history of mauveine.

Great video. 1856 you said? I am fascinated by the purple cloak in the acolyte, but it would be anachronistic before 1856 i guess.
