I just finished the game, and I have never been excited, never cried this much, and never been so impressed in a videogame that really pushes the boundaries of what a spectacle it is. I am absolutely wrecked, and didn't expect any less from the team behind FFXIV.

I'm mostly a pc gamer and this game made me want to buy a ps5 to play it, finish it, and have no regrets. That should tell you something. It is a masterpiece of storytelling, such a breath of fresh air, and I liked the combat too.

I played the demo and instantly pre ordered it. I haven't been this excited for a Final Fantasy game since Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy VII Remake.

- VA are spot on
- Graphics are beautiful
- Combat is super fun
- Story is very interesting so far
- Music is absolutely outstanding

so aside from a few frame drops here and there (that now I don't mind anymore):

9.5/10 for me - God I love this game!

The game is amazing it's absolutely gorgeous the combat works, it feels fresh and new, the cutscenes her perfectly timed, a truly epic tale, I never played final fantasy games but I pre-ordered this and I haven't been dissatisfied

What really frustrates me about these newer Final Fantasy games is not that they aren't good, it's that they are good, great even, and I love them... but I can't help but still feel the loss of the traditional Final Fantasy game, and the success of these games makes me feel like we will never go back to that. So, I am caught in a place where I am frustrated that the games they are making are so good, but are still not quite what I am wanting them to be. I would really love to see them take the franchise and split it. One branch making these new, more linear, action games. The other, a turn-based, super open world, more exploration-heavy game... with AIRSHIPS in it again. God, I miss the excitement of getting your first airship mid-game. The flying mod to the car in XV just didn't quite pull that off. I do like the more mature approach though for both game types. Sadly, I know I am wishing for something not likely to ever happen.

I very much dislike that people think that "darker" makes things better somehow. People don't mention emotion like bright or happiness to explain something to be amazing.

Was talking to Lorath in Diablo 4 and suddenly I heard his voice from the FFXVI trailer. Turned out Ralph Ineson voiced both Lorath and Cidolfus, what a coincidence!

For people who don't know. Square Enix already acknowledged and addressed the framerate issue. Many problems will be fixed in the Day-1 patch 1.03+ (Demo was version 1.01) but the biggest fps fix will be a post launch patch, if options to turn off Motion Blur and so on. My guess is patch will drop after 1-2 weeks, so if you want the full FF16 experience, just wait a bit. Also @DigitalFoundry will surely make a in-depth video of how the performance of FF16 is.

Played the demo and it was brilliant and the fact that progress carries over to the main game from the demo defo picking this up. The game has a much darker tone which is what makes it stand out

I would’ve preferred if this review didn’t have so many moments highlighting specific story cutscenes that weren’t in the demo but overall still an awesome review! Super excited for the game!

Great game overall but my gripes are:

Loot items
Side quest
Hunts
And some boss fights.

You can literally button mash and win easily.
