Meh. Just select the retrograde marker and burn until there is no periapsis above the ground. Doesn't matter where you land as long as it is a new biome you can collect science from.

The poles, , go for water/frost. Because, , you know, , we need that if we go there. Plenty of observations of the equator. Go for something more northern and possibly usable. We can create heat and electricity with that(if your worried about the temps). No more rock digging and core samples in the mid belt. That's been covered. Something new and usable for the eventual landing.

I was hoping this was more in-depth. I guess I didn't think through the 'in a minute' part of the video title :P

The curiosity rover did not try to land on the ground from high elevation sites, but there were boulders near the surface of Mars. The boulders then broke and created a high elevation site.

Short, easy to digest, and fun... Love it but make more of them around 2 minutes long please.

hmm I would send a swarm tech, to load energy with the solar cells on satelites and send that energy back for home station at north or south pole and left over energy to drones that do the reconnaissance.. something like that would word much much better, Good Luck NASA !

So, site closest to the equator and lowest elevation is a good place to start?

For people, you want to find some kind of cave to be protected from cosmic rays

You might want to land where some of the friendly beings are located, they could be very helpful to humans on arrival.

Viking found life on Mars in 1976. But, then again, it was actually looking for life and not trying to hide it.

Why do you want to land on Mars? Do I need to land on Mars? Can't a balloon roam in the Martian atmosphere?
Can't a balloon collect the soil sample? Can't a balloon do research?

You don't select a site any where near the Cydonia Region because the face on Mar's isn't interesting scientifically. You don't take a look at the D&M Pyramid or the wall or the Fort or possible city ruins or even to study the geometry of the landscape. Nope, , just don't do it.
