Mars in a Minute: How Did Mars Get Such Enormous Mountains?

I'm surprised a serious outfit like JPL would put out bad information. To say that Mars doesn't have plate tectonics is quite controversial, and flies in the face of recent studies suggesting that Valles Marineris is the result of a plate boundary. More on point, Tharsis Montes is a very clear line of volcanoes on Mars that appear to be formed by exactly the sort of plate movement shown in this video, and while that has yet to be proven, there are no better alternative hypotheses for their origin. Now, Olympus Mons may indeed be as big as it is because its plate slowed down or even stopped, but that's simply one explanation, and again, not proof that Mars has no plate tectonics at all.

No tectonic plates? How did that happen?

I have 2 doubts :
1. Wasn't mars tectonically active 3.8 GA ago?
2. Since we are comparing mountain heights, shouldn't we compare it from base rather than surface?

You can't really cover a subject like this in a minute...   This just leaves me feeling 'unsatisfied'...

Our mountains are measured from sea level. Does Mars also have a similar zero point or are we measuring Mars’ mountains from the lowest point on the ground? That’s not really a good comparison for heights if that’s the case.

How mountains are formed is it by the collison of the tectonics plates or the sprang of the active volcano lava??

So how come Mars didn't have plates?

When did we go from describing other stars with planets around them as Suns instead of, well, stars (and star systems became solar systems)? Doesn't it adds confusion about the topic (well, not really, depending on the context, but still can happen sometimes)?

Is the 'lava' in a Mars volcano made of toffee oozing through a thin layer of chocolate?

That's awesome, I really like your video . I'm working on a video at YouTube that need some material just like 0:25 of this video,May I use the 5 seconds clip from there? I really appreciate it if I can。

At 0:10 the narrator talked about Olympus Mons.

How deep can we burrow down and how helpful will it be

So, earthquakes aren't a thing in mars?

Cool, but I feel like erosion was unfairly ignored here.

Unfortunately, they could not get it in the soil so that it could actually work
