The perfect combination of virtuosity, confidence, fearlessness… and humor. Greg is THE MAN.

Greg’s versatility and technical abilities can be easily overlooked because of his charisma and humor, but once you stop laughing at the jokes and really listen to what he’s doing, it’s unreal. A one of a kind talent.

Greg guitar playing is so good that it makes you either want to stop playing or makes you appreciate the guitar like it was the first day you got your first electric. He always makes me happy when I hear him play.

You mentioned a few guitarists but the one Greg reminds me of most is Guthrie Govan. They both have that scary facility to play absolutely anything but also the very rare ability to play with a sense of humor.

Greg Koch is truly a guitar God! He's way to humble to ever place himself in that category, so I'm thrilled Rhett that you are doing this video! Great job sir.

Greg is a Wisconsin legend. I have been in the scene here for many years and he has a rabid fan base from many walks of life here…especially in all of the music and band circles here in Wisconsin. I have seen him play with a number of different artists and, despite his incredible guitar chops, he still knows how to serve the song and the artist he is playing with extremely well. He is also so ridiculously funny. We are a blessed bunch here that we get to enjoy the musicality and guitar “guru-ness” of Mr. Greg Koch!

I remember the day I stumbled upon all those Wildwood videos. I watched them for literally hours, crying with laughter and being blown away by his playing. Truly a one off human-being!

How many players can you say surprise you every time you see or hear them? A truly, truly phenomenal musician.

THE KOCHNESS MONSTER !! I saw him live this summer . During the show I got a lil emotional cause I knew I was witnessing greatness . The promoters for the show didn't promote this show . There was 30 ppl in a 300+ size venue . Greg and his band mates Dylan "Big Deal" Koch and Toby "The Tickler" Marshall still played like their life depended on it .

The thing is, he's never showing off, but joyfully exploring, and it's obvious as he emits that energy. We're fortunate to be in Milwaukee and have been taking in his live performances for decades. Humble guy who knows what his fans want and he delivers - every time. He can mimic all his influences with perfection. What knowledge base. Happy the internet has expanded his reach. As a guitar player, I love that he shares so much content.

LOVED Josh Smith’s expressions in the background. You could tell he was really enjoying what was going on right next to him.

I was fortunate to meet Greg last Wednesday in Livonia, MI at Rock City music. Such an entertainer, but more importantly just a nice person. Very humble and cool to hang out with. A lot of jaws dropped to the floor watching him play for an hour.

Greg is such a monster player and in many ways reminds me of a young Danny Gatton. Such a unique and masterful style, nearly impossible to copy or duplicate.

The telecaster may very well be the most expressive of all guitars. You can literally get anything from a soft, quiet, warm sound to an ice pick of intensity all in one guitar. You can do the same with other guitars to an extent, but a tele seems to do it better and with a more well-rounded degree of authenticity than most other guitars. Greg is obviously a great example of someone who uses the full range of tele sounds to an expert level, but Roy Buchanan was also another tele guy who could use the guitar to express anything and everything. A tele in the hands of a master might just take the cake in terms of expression and versatility.

Greg is great, funny as hell and always inspired. He’s not just some knock off, sure he is an encyclopedia of the great players but he always puts his own unique spin on all of the styles he plays. Most importantly, as a stylist he brings an incredible physical/technical prowess to everything he plays and sounds like nobody else even while evoking his heroes. Go see him live if you have any doubts!

Josh's expressions in the first clip tell us alot. Josh is no pushover in the guitar prowess dept. So when a guy like that smiles and almost gets giddy hearing/watching a dude like Greg play, you know it's genuine and special.

I had no idea who Greg was till I saw him on a Wildwood Guitars video several years ago. I was stunned. I can't think of more than a few guitarists who could come close to what he does. He is simply amazing to watch and hear.

Players like Greg, to me, their greatest impact is when they do something that surprises you. So many players - especially with blues - is their riffing, while often impressive, just follows similar patterns or whatever. But coming up with strange textures, weird sounds, cool contrasts - the unexpected - that's an ability that separates the really good players from really GREAT ones! And Greg constantly brings that element of surprise. Beck is a lot like that, in differing ways.
