The 6 Chords of AC/DC - How to Play Guitar Like AC/DC

Play along with these Backing Tracks -

In this guitar lesson, we show you how to play guitar chords that sound like AC/DC. If you want to learn how to play rock guitar, and specifically how to play ACDC songs, you need to know how to play chords like ACDC.

AC/DC is one of the most influential and iconic rock bands of all time. Many guitar players want to learn how to play guitar like AC/DC's Angus Young and Malcom Young. The AC/DC guitar sound is very distinguishable and recognizable. AC/DC songs are unmistakeable. A big reason for this is the sound of the guitar chords; many bands play their songs with traditional power chords, but AC/DC chords are a little different. Angus and Malcolm Young played chords on the guitar that were really a combination of power chords and regular open chords. Some of these chords just need one note to be different in order to make them sound like AC/DC.

In this guitar lesson we will show you 6 chords that will enable you to play most (if not all) AC/DC songs. The guitar chords you learn in this lesson can also be used in many other classic rock songs.

If you are a beginner guitar player, or even more advanced and wanting to learn how to play AC/DC style chords or how to play AC/DC songs, you don't want to miss this lesson

People say AC/DC only uses a few chords - but try and play theyre songs right - they are the absolute masters at what they do - dont just think you strum an A chord - and you are playing AC/DC.

Angus and Malcolm (RIP MALCOLM) was the gods of easy chords and songs. I learn a lot of the AC/DC songs and after 25 years of my guitar experience i still don't know how they made those magic. That only knows Angus, Malcolm take those skills to grave, and now he shows it in heaven. Great Content and great backing track. Forever AC/DC. Greetings from frozen Poland.

Playing guitar for over 30+ years I always find it great to find channels like this that give great tips to beginners, but it's also the concise knowledge you have -- it's about having an ear for it. some of these songs you mentioned i'd played years ago in cover bands and would often opt for the power chord version by either being sloppy or just doing my own versions, it's good you do a great thorough take on some of these chords. Also love the tone, reminds me of bars in the 80's. Great stuff helping those about to rock \m/

The E chord does include a g#, certainly as Mal played it, use the old fashioned 1st position open E and strum strings 6 through 3, as evidenced in Jailbreak and lots of other songs with that chord in there.
Angus might play the E as presented here but Angus and Mal often had different parts.

What a fantastic lesson. I typically shun videos that get into the weeds because "I just want to play". If you think that's a lousy way to progress as a guitarist, you're right! But the tips here on how to voice these chords so that they ring out are just what I needed for a bunch of songs, not just AC/DC songs. Thanks for taking my playing up a notch Studio33!

Lowered power pickups coupled with high output amplifier will clear up and define that muddiness. Great video 👍🏻

Nice video thanks! I remember watching a rig rundown and they set their Marshalls to 3 for bass, mids, trebble which actually surprised me a lot.

Thanks, very helpful. In Highway to hell he plays the D chord with the F# on the low E string.

Great video! The G chord reminded me of when I had a handful of lessons with Gizz Butt in the mid 90s, I'd been pretty much taught loads of punk songs from the early 80s, and had a guitar case chord book with the fingerings for 'open chords' and the G was obviously the 'traditional ' fingering, Gizz showed me your "AC/DC" version and it sounded so much better! !!
I loved AC/DC from my early teens (1980 onwards) up to For Those About To Rock...after that I kinda lost interest in the newer stuff...in 1979 I totally fell in love with the Pretenders, James Honeyman -Scott was a phenomenal guitar melody beast!
I'm now going to watch more of your AC/DC videos....thank you for uploading this!
