The Method of Frobenius and the Indicial Equation

We discuss the method of Frobenius for solving a second order linear differential equation in a neighborhood of a regular singular point. Under this assumption, the normalized coefficients of y' and y will have valid series expansions near the regular singular point up to a logarithm. We derive the formula for the indicial equation which allows us to compute the shifts in the power series representations.
