It is worth remembering that Walter Tevis, The man who wrote the novel on which the series is based was an excellent chess player. Also he is the same man who wrote two other novels; The Hustler and The Color Of Money, both of which were made into excellent movies about pool.

The reporter obviously doesnt know anything about chess as he shows an impossible position on the big board. He cant have 2 black squared bishops and it would be impossible with the pawn moves played to get a bishop to the 3rd rank.
