If I remember correctly, she dropped out of college not because she couldn't finish her degree but because streaming just made more sense for her financially. I believe her major was chemical engineering and has said she enjoyed her major before deciding to drop out. So yeah, she's quite intelligent in the conventional sense and that can translate really well when you're learning a game/skill like Chess.
