Think about this concurrently: Levy has gained half a million subscribers in the last month, out of the current 2.5 million he has. He's gained 20% of his subs in a month. This is legitimately insane. Ride the wave, Levy! Ride. The. Wave!

Hey guys! We love that so many people are jumping into chess and learning the game! We're working diligently to get our servers back to full health and scaled for the increased traffic! We know this is frustrating, but we'll get it fixed!

Thank you so much Levy for the kind shout out!
The work that you have put in on a consistent basis is just mind boggling. Just an insane work ethic.
PS: Here's a very interesting piece of statistic - this might be one of the last few days that ChessBase India has the highest number of views for any chess channel on YouTube. We just hit 800 million views! Gothamchess is currently on 786 million!

I am a junior in HS atm, and there are people discussing chess out loud in class in 4 out of the 6 classes I have. Again, this just like friends discussing the daily puzzle and stuff like that, IDK how many more people are playing it casually.
Now I feel like some kind of early investor watching everything start blowing up around me (with the exception that I don't plan on 'cashing out' anytime soon), and man do I feel like nerding out for the rest of every class period regardless of classwork or stuff like that.

I mentioned this to my IB German teacher (looking to take advantage of the situation to create a chess club), and she mentioned her surprise at who was playing it (I presume she meant the stereotypically more 'misbehaved' kids), considering its being thought of as a game of the mind. Hearing her mention that, though, really struck a chord. Like thinking about it, chess is one of the few games where you get an even playing field, and these supposed rejects of society can find this "We're all in this together" game where, at least at the beginner levels, social status and wealth have no bearing on success, you can kind of just be a little kid again, sharing this cool new thing with all your friends.

The wonderful world of chess: so popular it’s taking itself down

2 years ago, my school's Chess team had 3 members.
1 year ago, my school's Chess team had around 12 members.
This year, my school's Chess team has around 24 members.
This growth is insane.

The growth in chess has been insane, love to see it

The wired interviews were exactly what got me to start playing chess again for the first time in over 10 years, and have thoroughly enjoyed your content every day since.

This chess boom is happening even at my school. I played a little when I was younger. Then recently I watched your video on mittens and it made me want to play again. Then like a week later, there was a major spike of people playing chess during lunch and in my class

I liked the part where Levi said “I am the chess boom” and boomed all over the table

Last time chess boomed, it was during pandemic. I was 900, got to 1000 but stuck there.
then I found this channel, with his free tutorials alone I hit 1600 in a span of 1 year. (Stopped studying and stopped playing often because job resumed)

So I can say for certain all these new subscribers came to the right place to improve their chess and/or just be hella entertained.

Levy, if you are reading this, you got so many beginners get to intermediate, and so many intermediate get to advance. I dare say you literally stepped up the playing field! I don't think anyone else, not even magnus, has achieved that in the given timespan.

Happy to see the growth of your channel Levy. If anyone deserves it, it’s you. You’re hard working, organized, creative and likable. We (my 8 & 9 year old daughters and I) love watching and appreciate your content.

Levy, Hikaru, Anna Cramling, Botez sisters, Chessbaseindia, ChessBrah all deserve so much respect for helping to bring chess to this point - I get recommended dozens of videos on multiple platforms from this bunch every day and they never disappoint

The stare was a 7.5/10 for me, way too short but very intense and made me question my very existence.

Today's stare: Solid 8/10. Natural and exactly the perfect length, good performance.

I honestly think the commentary you provide makes the game much more interesting. Once I imagined the game like a boxing match I started playing again. Through your videos in the past month I have learned a few openings, which I have never once had interest in doing, and now am excited seeing how many people I can checkmate playing simple solid chess. I have a long ways to go but I credit being a Gotham Subscriber to any growth I am experiencing.

Beside chess’ global popularity right now, Levy’s individual success lies on his style of videos. They are extremely good for noobs like me. I don’t even have to understand chess to enjoy them. And I guess people knowing chess also enjoy the analysis, jokes, and discussions. I hope he keeps it like this.

To be fair, chess tends to peak at the start of the year. This year it seems we have a perfect storm of mittens, chess controversies, chess boxing, and other factors. I hope we can keep this momentum going and get an even bigger audience.

The subtlety of today's stare is sublime. Was he playing to the crowd? Was it just a natural stare? I feel like he held it for that nanosecond longer, as a little wink to the audience. Really good stuff. 10/10

You are great chess teacher. I went from below 1000 to 1300 elo points just with few of your biginner opening videos. Btw I'm 40 and I played chess as a kid without any chess knowledge or teachers backi in a day. Last few months I've been playing chass online and it's amazing. So once again, thank you for doing what you doing and keep it up. I know I will ;) Cheers!
