I've had this theory that this scene was setup specifically for Steve Rogers. They knew how the movie was going to end so they wanted to leave an avenue for him to return in the future. It just made sense to me. We know Peggy is dead, so nothing stopping him from de-aging and going a few more rounds. Most people don't agree with me and think it's just funny scene with no motive, but a man can hope.
