"Why don't we just find Baby Thanos, and... you know..." *Strangling motion with cord*
"First of all, that's horrible!"
"It's Thanos!"

Actually, as a fun fact, Thanos' mother tried to kill him when he was born.

This has to be one of the only movies I’ve ever seen that doesn’t say a time travel change the future.

Here's another way to explain time travel.

If you were to go back in time and, for one reason or another, cause your parents to separate before you were born, then you would no longer exist. But if you no longer exist, then you could not go back in time and separate them, so then you would exist. But then you'd separate them, so you wouldn't exist. It's a never ending paradox of going back in time to change something and having no reason/ability to go back in time in the first place. However, there are 2 ways that time itself avoids the paradox.

1) Multiverse. Your actions in the past simply caused a separate timeline to form, which has no effect on your own timeline. You separated your parents in one timeline, but they still got together in yours, so you still exist and the other timeline has 100% less you in it, and all of the changes that it comes with. This is the main explanation used throughout the movie, and is given it's own segment during the conversation between Bruce and the Ancient One.

2) Causality Loop. What you do in the past has already happened and has always already happened. If you went back in time and separated your parents, then it just so happens that you did this at the exact moment that they remember having a rough patch in the relationship, which you now know you were the cause of. They would later get back together, and you would still exist. I'm willing to wager that this method is what happened with Steve at the end of the movie. He was always meant to stay in the past and grow old, probably with a new identity, which is why he is still in the main timeline.

Either that or the writers gave up.

Edit: I have realized that there is a third way to avoid the paradox;

3) The Living Paradox. There are examples of people being exempt from the rules of Space and Time after performing time travel. When I say this, I mean that there is a specific in-universe reason why the character is not affected by changes to the past. 2 examples that immediately come to mind are The Reverse Flash from DC Comics, who became detached from the Space-Time Continuum after The Flash (Barry) created the Flashpoint, and Goku Black from Dragon Ball Super, who can ignore changes made to his past self as long as he wears a Time Ring (this is technically true for all Dragon Ball characters if they were wearing a Time Ring, but Goku Black is the only example of this actually happening). This kind of example does not come up in Avengers, but I felt that it should be put here anyway.

That look by Hawkeye at 1:37 is pure comedy gold and also I’m sure the entire audience had after that explanation by hulk lol

Here's a better argument. If you travel back in time with the intent of altering history to change the present, then technically you already have. But if you already have, why hasn't anything changed?

So basically if u travel back and “end yourself” u wouldnt be erased from existance, you would be stuck in a branched timeline where u mever grew up, u wouldnt be able to go back to where u came from cuz that no longer existed, which is why nebula is still alive after shooting her younger self, but she was also in the future, she not exactly branching timelines

I like how Rhodes agrees with Scott the whole time. Everyone else considers him a moron.

Imagine a Conversation like this on the old NBC TV Show Heroes with all the Main Characters and Hiro (Time Traveler Meta Human), interesting Episode!

This rule correlates with the TVA in Loki Season 1, it doesn't change the future of the Sacred Timeline when you changed something in the past rather it creates an alternate, branched timeline.

Hulk: Changing the past, doesn't change the future.
Doctor: EXCUSE ME!
Amy: So your telling me that me and Rory can still be save!?
Nebula: Is that me?
Rose: YOUR KIDDING ME!
Jack: WHAT!?
Doctor: I'm a time lord! and your telling everything i knew about Time Travel was a lie! YOUR TIME TRAVEL RULES ARE NOT TRUE AT ALL FROM MY UNIVERSE.

I still don’t see how this works but can we talk about how Rhody and Scott are nerds I absolutely love the throwback movies they mention.
