Chino and John discuss Hobart Freeman and his ministry, focusing on the serious consequences and controversies that arose from his teachings, particularly regarding divine healing. They examine the tragic outcomes faced by Freeman’s followers due to their adherence to his doctrines, including preventable deaths. They also discuss the absence of financial and moral scandals typically associated with such ministers, noting Freeman’s focus on control and power. They draw comparisons with other prominent figures in similar movements, highlighting a pattern of deceptive and manipulative tactics used to maintain authority and control over followers.

Chino and John recount specific instances of deaths within Freeman’s ministry, including the notable cases of Sally Burkett and Alice Rogers, and the subsequent media exposure that brought attention to these tragedies. They emphasize Freeman’s diversionary tactics, which shifted focus away from preventable deaths and onto external adversaries like the media. The episode also touches on the broader context of the Pentecostal and Charismatic movements, illustrating how Freeman’s teachings and actions fit into a larger pattern of control and manipulation within these religious groups. The conversation underscores the detrimental impact of such ministries on the lives of their followers and the importance of transparency and accountability in religious leadership.

I just wrote a blog on Hobart Freeman, so I was pleasantly surprise to find your series on Hobart here. Blessings

Thank you. I’ve missed this series for awhile, being involved in some other field of research. Your scholarship always humbles me, John. So well done. You have managed to tie together so many legs of this “creeping vine.”

That "no comment" response reminded me of Mike Buckle refusing to face victims, the church or the public.

I grew up going to the glory barn & Faith Assembly. My dad was an associate pastor at Faith Assembly also. I was around 15 when we left Faith Assembly.

Right! About the depth of the Word of our LORD! one life is not enough to study it and hear it

I remember hearing on tape on one or more times, Hobart making that statement of what that sister told him that the Lord showed her, about "one person" having the entire End Time message revealed to them. Although he didn't say that it was hom explicitly, it was obvious that "it was him."

what a great conclusion! about a church where the dead are being rased, how it makes itself out to be "special", while taking the fokus off the purity and sanctity of the Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ

When our fam left FA..we had a lot of 'dark humor' in the midst of the trauma....thus saith the Lord. used almost as much as the blood of Jesus

As many others may know by now, Dr. John Davis is, in fact, still alive. He is 88 years old. The Wikipedia article on him mentions Hobart Freeman, and his opinion concerning him.

I grew up in a faith assembly church in Michigan. My family left when I was 13.

Freeman sounds very similar to WMB. WMB made what he wanted to get across very clear, and yet he was able to also was able to maintain plausible deniability.

I had no idea WMB used thus saith lord so many times. What a huge manipulation!!

False hope is an understatement. He led us to equate healing with salvation from sin. He wasn’t in it for monetary gain His premises was if God doesn’t heal then He can’t save you from your sins.
