I have been running a eGPU with a 1070 and a GPD win 3 for about a year now. I have no numbers to back it up but it's awesome. The games look great at home and playing with it as a handheld at work is really convenient. I'm wondering now if upgrading the gpu is even worth it now

PC Gamers spend an almost absurd amount of money on GPUs for a few extra frames. I think they'd rather have them in a proper gaming PC as well.

I'm more of a person who buys at the sweet spot of frames vs dollars, but I still prefer a PC when gaming. I use a laptop for work and for using a computer while lying in bed.

The desktop PC probably won't become any more dead than it already is.

It's tough, with current tech. I end up going with a beefed out Clevo laptop with an i9 desktop CPU. And the latest and greatest RTX Nvidia card. Then when that starts showing some age, about 3 years. I'll build the latest and greatest desktop. And alternate.

If they will finally expose a full 16x Gen 4/5 PCIe port at full bandwidth on a laptop, I would love to consolidate. Have the home setup as a glorified docking station, once it starts to age, slap the latest gen GPU in the eGPU case and keep on going.
