There has been a long debate as to which game is better, but that's not what I'm looking to answer today. Rather, we'll be looking at why Minecraft has been more successful than Terraria.

WANT TO PLAY AAA GAMES ON YOUR POTATO OF A PC?

WHAT TO KNOW: Boosteroid lets you play games you own on the cloud. Boosteroid must own the rights to the video game on the right store, so you can own a game they have listed while owning it on the wrong store [ex: they have the game Control but only on Epic Game Store so if you own a Steam copy it won't work. So check to make sure they have the games you want to play on the platform you like]. I test it myself and it's performance was shockingly good.

Terraria's corruption relies on the limited size worlds and 2d dimension, Imagine trying to remove all the corruption in a infinite world, It would never end!

In my opinion, one of the main reasons Minecraft succeeded over Terraria is due to the difference in how accessible and how simple the game is, making Minecraft played by a much younger audience (6 ~ 11 year old kids) due to its simplicity and how easy it is, and terraria is a much more complicated and difficult game, making its self targeted to an older audience. Even I still have to use the wiki from time to time even after 1000 hours

The main difference is that in Minecraft you kill the boss with swords and bows while in terraria you kill the boss by using a alien space laser that you obtained from a flying saucer while riding the unicorn that you found and tamed in a rainbow biome that was created after you went to hell, killed unholy monsters and a giant wall of flesh.

Another good thing about Terraria is that you can suggest things to add into the game (via forums or smth like that) instead of voting in what the devs want to add in

I remember being 10 years old when i first learned of Terraria. I didn't have a PC or anything to play it, so naturally i memorized the entire wiki and fantasized playing it for years. It was the first game i ever played and i now have around 6000 hours in Terraria and Tmodloader

"I'll just tell you I enjoy Terraria more because I have more refined tastes"
Ah yes... A fellow man of culture.

As a long time player of both games, I can say with certainty that Minecraft needs more things to do, doesn't have to be linear proggresion but proggresion in its various systems that have been abandoned like: fishing, minecarts, exploration, and bosses (not after the dragon just random world bosses in their own unique dungeons that you can go to at any time) this would make the game so much better and I believe most players would agree.

A huge reason for Minecraft being more popular is because is pretty much made for children (it's still fun) and therefore is not difficult to say the least unlike terraria where there is actual progression and intricate bosses that take time and skill to overcome which is obviously not aimed at kids especially the ones that are younger (10 and below) not to mention the "gore"

Calling terraria unsuccessful is kinda stupid and clickbaity imo. terraria is a trenendous success, minecraft may have sold more copies, but that dosen't take away from the fact that terraria still has millions of players who serious love the game.

Terraria's dev team still actually care for their game and community.

It's interesting, I get bored easily in Minecraft BECAUSE there are few set goals. I can put up with Terraria's difficulty and grinding because there's more to reward my patience than just "oh look, I was finally able to build this cool thing".

I'll be honest here, I've played Minecraft for years, and only recently started with Terraria, but I love playing it more than Minecraft, mainly because the progress, updates, devs, and community. All things Minecraft has, but to a lesser degree. I still don't know half the crafting recipes Minecraft has, but I know the droprates, crafting trees, and modded content for Terraria.

Personally one of the strongest points of Terraria (something that Vinesauce Vinny noticed), is the addictive and fluid progression system.

No matter what you do, there is most of the time something that lies ahead of it.

Diving into the depths for ore? Well, how about these relics, statues, traps, enemy drops, rare foes and items, dye plants/ fungi, mini-biomes that you can find?

Exploring the Surface? You shall meet new habitats with new wood materials, plants, and new creatures and dangers, but you must brave these areas in order to find more beyond them.
Maybe these lands could give you new ideas for building too?

Going to the side of the depths? Well, get ready for a rude awakening to unseen depths of biomes that seemed fairly tame on the surface, but will rip out your spine if you ever drop your guard and expect a easy time like on it's surface.
And yet, these areas hold unique treasures, even the seemingly empty Desert itself.
It WILL put you through the wringer.

Going even further down? Well, you will be greeted by the Underworld and it's residents with the most hostile of welcome.
Explore all you want, but it will make you feel like there is something that you missed elsewhere..

And then there's the NPCs that add, and clarify parts of progression.
Many things that you do will have a impact on most of these people.

Even someone as missable and ignorable as the Angler, will have you revisiting many places that you have seen before, and you will find things that you never obtained in your first travel through.

Even the Pilon system gives incentive to build in places that are out of your comfort zone.

And if you're inclined, the NPC Happiness system will have you considering each person's personalities and relationships.
But you will be rewarded for it.

So many elements, even smaller things like seemingly unneeded items and accessories, tie in with something later, i.e: fusing weapons and accessories on occasion.
And the Guide is there to help more than we may first think..

I always felt like Terraria is a survival boss-fight game with some sandbox features, whereas Minecraft is a sandbox with some survival-game features.
Both are awesome, but if we're talking about a game, Terraria is much more developed as such.
Funny fact though, you can build a real-life computer in both

Another big point has to be community and Youtube content. Back when parody videos from captain sparkles and all the other iconic lets plays it sent Minecraft into another dimension of enjoyability. The glory days of Minecraft heavily outshined terraria as if it wasn't competition. That being said Terraria does have a great community but Minecraft simply cultivated it and turned it into an absolute monster to be reckon with and nothing ever came close to touching that same kind of unstableness until Fortnite basically did the same thing. Terraria was the hidden gem whilst Minecraft was the limelight abuser.

Just to be totally clear, I LOVE Terraria and how it is and would NEVER ask it to change. This video is just meant to consider why the general public likes Minecraft more since, after all, it has more sales and is a more popular game.

Minecraft thrives way more in online multiplayer as well. I've never loved vanilla Minecraft but different mini games on online servers like bedwars and stuff were a blast.

Terraria and Minecraft aren't even slightly the same game. They are so different that it's weird to compare them as people do
