i dont think people who say they want a mother sequel without mr. itoi actually understand what theyre talking about. mother's core identity, its charm, personality, art direction, music, all of it is so deeply personal to mr. itoi. his life, experiences, feelings, beliefs and thoughts are literally VITAL to the mother series. it is not mother without mr. itoi. it is not a series that can exist independent of his vision.

The fact that the Mother series is definitively over is one of my favorite aspects of it. In an age of sequels and reboots and I'm so happy a guy was just able to tell the story he wanted to, wrap it up, and leave it be. Video games series rarely get true endings either, so that only furthers it's unique identity

itoi is the most respectible person i can think of. he meticulously crafted these games to resonate with players that have completely different personalities with others. he made the games have something that you can relate to no matter what type of person you are. for example people that are gay or lesbian or somthing like that can relate to the magypsies, people that have a friend they tragically left in the place they used to live can relate to jeff leaving tony. there are so many specific aspects of these games that relate to people so strongly that just living your life is like the sequel to the game because you feel like things in the games are close to how things are in real life. itoi is a genius i honestly dont know how he did it.

We already have tons of “Mother 4”s without Shigesato Itoi’s involvement. There are so many amazing Mother-inspired RPGs out there already. An official Mother game without Itoi’s involvement would also just be that.

I don't want a Mother 4 but I want a Mother reboot. You cannot possibly tell me that this series can't give us new characters to love, new lands to explore, and more stories to tell. As long as they don't change anything from the og trilogy then I'd be 100% down.

I'd love another Mother game or even spin-off even if Itoi didn't make it, but I do want him to at least consult or even just approve it before it's released. Mother has such a specific voice that comes from Itoi himself so it wouldn't feel right without at least his blessing

I would love to see a sequel game where we see a continuation of Ninten and Giegue’s promised return and possibly even an explanation on how Buzz Buzz traveled through time

Mother is such a wonderful series, and I personally think it’s fine where it is. I wouldn’t be opposed to a spiritual successor, or just a reboot of the series, but the original trilogy didn’t drag on and lose its magic like many others do, and I think that is admirable.

I feel like the thing is with a possible “mother 4” is that it would be very hard to live up to fans expectations, kinda like if SEGA ever made a Sonic Adventure 3. I feel like a remake of the series could work as a grounds to test the waters & gauge interest in the franchise

Even if they did make mother 4 it would probably not be released outside of Japan

I have no doubt considering the amount of people Itoi has influenced that it would technically be possible to assembled a team that could do something without him, in the same spirit, but also something unique: I have no doubt about that. But until it happens, I don’t care: and I know that if it does, people will seperate the Itoi work as it’s own thing and era anyway.

I honestly think Mother 4 doesn't need to exist. Sure, it would be nice to see something new, but the series is so special and it actually has a definitive end, unlike other Nintendo series that just exist in limbo. I honestly get why people want a Mother 4, but I really do admire Itoi for actually sticking to what he said with there not being a 4th entry, because he told the story he wanted to.

The only reason why I wouldn't want to see another official mother game is that Nintendo would probably try and take down a lot of the current fan projects even more aggressively. I would probably still play an official mother 4, but I'm not actively wishing for it.

Js wanna point out "a mother game isnt mother without shigesato itoi" isnt exactly right, as Itoi himself has stated that "if there ever were mother 4, i'd love to be the one playing it" basically saying he expects the fans to make a mother 4 rather than making one himself
