I just took my new 50 cc out for a neighborhood spin....loved it. Faster than a golf cart in this 55+ neighborhood, faster than my beloved pedal-powered mountain bike - great for getting around town. Looking forward to getting acclimated. Have been riding my mountain bike for conducting local errands for years and years - throw stuff into a back pack, but I'm getting a little old and creaky. This scooter is the key help.

This is awesome quality content! I just purchased a UZ50 so I feel very well informed about the expenses and how to take care of my scooter. :)

I'm 14 and in the US (Ohio to be specific of state) I can get a probationary moped license. I use an 80CC Bike motor which goes ~50 miles an hour. I might be getting an actual scooter from my grandparent's soo and I will have a license to cover that as well. I like taking long rides through my city and the 50cc scooter goes 35 mph which is more than enough for me to zip around from the grocery store to wherever else I need to get to, which isn't a lot of places but it's still good to have one on hand if the 80cc kit needs a little bit of work. I can get one from 400-~3500 dollars which is easy money and I'd be grateful to have an actual moped/scooter for commutes.

Love mine, my car is 3000cc V6, so it doesn't take very long to pay for itself

I've had a bunch of cars over the years but always kept a scooter as a backup vehicle.. then I relied solely on a Chinese scooter for about a year.. paid $400 for it and spent another $200 on a 72cc kit and a handful of other things. Does just fine in my city. Registration is $6, good for three years and insurance is another $100 a year. They're dirt cheap as far as transportation goes, especially if you do your own work. I've owned three Chinese scooters and have had generally good luck with them. My current one is nearing the 10kkm mark and 8k has been with the $70 bore kit. I recently decided to just get a 250cc motorcycle instead of getting another car but am tempted to hang onto the scooter. It isn't worth much at all but has been really reliable for me.. all I've really done since the rebuild is change the oil.. which it does burn a fair amount of. Pretty sure it's the rings which I can change out in about two hours but haven't bothered yet.

I may go the 3-wheeled scooter route as I live in a hilly area (the town isn't hilly but the interesting countryside areas are!) and only have a car licence - allowing (in the UK) for a 50cc scooter but not anything larger.

My 50cc Metropolitan can do 40 mph and gets 125 mpg around town. Very reliable and fun.
