I *wish* I had known about this sooner. My grandfather spent years taking care of his wife and I saw the toll it took on him. I wish I had known about and recommended palliative care to him. She's out of pain now, and we're taking care of grandpa as best we can.

Palliative care is end of life in uk, my hubby just been put on it. He’s been home from hospital 3 weeks, is dying a young horrible copd death and no one
Has been to visit yet. It’s just down to me to see to his needs, which I do lovingly but I need support as I’m watching him dying,
Blood is going towards acidosis by his symptoms, yet no help m I’m just asking him to push carbon dioxide out with breathing but
I know I’m loosing him, I love him sooo much death is soo crap ! I’m letting him die here in my arms if I can, we’re he’s loved.

While I am not currently treated as a terminal illness patient, I have a multitude of severe chronic illnesses with a few being chronic pain conditions and the others cause chronic pain and a symptom. Luckily, I have a pain management provider that has me on their list of patients who are considered as "palliative care" patients as pain management only focuses on the pain management and side effects from the medications used for pain management such as constipation. However, I'm also under the care of neurology, cardiology, endocrinology, rheumatology, ear/nose&throat/sleep medicine, psychiatry and of course primary care along with orthopedic providers who happen to be within the same practice as my pain management provider as an as needed basis.

Sadly, in my state they lump palliative and hospice together. Once on palliative, one cannot receive any curative care -- very, very scary! You are completely given up on. Such a shame.

Hi. I have a question. My mom had a serious illness which left her in I.c.u. for a couple of months. When she had enough treatment she went to palliative care. The fact all she wanted was to be kept comfortable, no treatment. Wouldn't that be more hospice than palliatives care?

PALLATIVE is giving comfort and giving medications that will reduce the pain. HOSPICE is more focus on the comfort of the family as well as the patient. AT THIS POINT consider other option like Natural or Naturopathic medications, such as strong vitamins C IV treatment, glutathione treatment or whatever you think to prolong the life of your love ones. It’s not bad to think that their is HOPE out there. My friend she’s 45 she got terminally ill, doctor told her she will have 6 mos to 1yr to live and this was in 2014. Now she still alive we are already in December 2021 almost 2022 already. This simply means that the doctor sometimes are not accurate they also make mistakes sometimes wrong diagnosis.

My mom was on hospice. I‘d never ever put another loved one through that. All hospice care did was increase not decrease my stress as a caregiver.

This nurse just said, you cannot see other doctors outside of Hospice while the patience is in Hospice. .
YES YOU CAN. You can SEE YOUR MEDICARE PRIMARY DOCTOR while your still on Hospice, if a patient develops another illness other than the diagnosis he is being care for under Hospice. You most certainly are able to see your primary doctor outside of Hospice. How else is the patient suppose be treated.

Palliative care was brought in for my ex whom was giving 6 months to live. They were so warm and caring. Helped so much with the stress of the family and the patient. They prepared him for his death. priest prayed and held his hand . Then moving to hospice he was at peace. Thanks to both palliative care, and hospice nurse 🙏
