Love these videos. Very interesting to delve into the psychology of horror, and the enjoyment theory would make complete since out of the comedy horror genre. Keep up the great work on these.

Donnie Darko... horror? I think it's a genre-defying movie, with respect.

The topic of part 3 made me think about what I like to call "misery porn" it started hitting the main stream when Game of Thrones was at its peak popularity. By Misery Porn I'm talking about media where the main characters are just put through a parade of endless suffering where any hope that exists is there to be dashed. This could apply to some horror but is not limited to it. I basically stopped watching GoT because not only was it a negative emotion, but the pattern became predictable. The same occurred with telltales the walking dead series.
On the other hand I love being scared by horror, even if it's a predictable jumpscare (the last insidious movie had a good one. ) this could be because fear had an adrenaline rush while misery is, well, a downer.
It's something I like to mull over.

Who is the other philosopher or author? The name is not in the description below the video and closed captioning does not make a clear distinction on how his name is spelled in any helpful way. I'm not sure if your pronunciation is correct. However, it would be helpful knowing who the two authors/philosophers are when being used in this discussion. Thank you.

Great channel by the way! I was very excited to find a philosophy channel that goes in depth when analyzing films, especially horror.

I think we're all a little fucked up inside and like to watch fucked up shit happen. Only we (or most of us at least) also have this anoying thing called a conscience, so we wouldn't actually do fucked up shit irl. Hence why we enjoy horror movies hahahaha

Get Out isn't a horror movie. It's a comedy version of an out of touch cautionary movies like Reefer Madness, only white people are the evil Reefer. It's not scary, but if you roll your eyes at the message, it's hilarious.
