There are benefits in stacking both, but one type is better than another when stacking metals. One type of silver and gold has lower premium but can be directly impacted by fluctuating spot prices while the other type, collectible silver and gold, has low mintages and collectability. I feel you need both in your stack. Common bullion won't earn as much but easy to use or flip. Nusmatic is exactly what it is collectible. But you have to keep in mind when selling if it would be difficult to flip if you need the money.

just don't take your collectibles to a lcs. They will NOT pay more than spot, but they sure will sell it at a massive collectible premium.
every lcs i've been to has done this.
Find someone who wants it and is willing to pay your price for it. even selling at a coin show could be a better option.
also, i knew that the collectible coin and card market would eventually cross paths.

I stack mostly for weight … From time to time I buy some neat items … Gun coin, Oroborous snake coin or Libertad etc … My next move is to concentrate on gold bullion …🌎🗿™️

I've been buying fractional gold bars, primarily 1 gram PAMP and Valcambi, from a particular eBay Live auction. The most I have paid for a 1 gram PAMP breakaway is $72. I even managed to get a couple at $59. I steer away from collectibles unless I can get a good price on them. My only exceptions are the Perth Lunar New Year coins. I really love those coins and they actually appreciate in value.

For me in the uk It's gold... the government slaps 20% tax on silver that with premiums it's not worth it .

Collectibles like jewelry, you can only get 90% of spot price. Also if you buy gold coins from the US Mint, the mark up is 30% above spot price, and if you sell you'l get at spot price or maybe 10% above spot price.

If you are stacking purely for weight to get the most metal for the money silver is out. The best premium I have found is .50 an ounce which is 2% to buy generic 1oz rounds is closer to 4% where gold can be found for around 1% per ounce. But I personally don’t see metals as an investment stocks and real estate are much better returns and premiums are lower and they are more liquid in my opinion.

Its ok to buy fractional gold if your money is tight - you can flip it when the price rises and make a good profit allowing you to buy an OZ at less. Definitely agree with buying 5 and 10oz silver bars.

I stack mostly silver a bit of gold if I can afford it. But I also collect silver coins with higher premiums. Toe it keeps stacking fun . Also once I put my fiat currency into metals I will not be able to waste that money foolishly. I pay cash for the things I need and have zero dept. Metals protect my savings from both me and our government.

Great Topic Stormy! Years ago I was worried about this when buying and selling but not now, I stock just about everything. I'm not the smartest cookie in the jar or the sharpest knife in the drawer but I do know this "There's an Ass for Every Seat". Personally, if it's gold or silver I like it all.
