This card is adapted from 'Drawing Form and Pose' by Tom Fox.

Haven't drawn the frontal bone in a while, and this is a good example of me not being able to actually do what the card is asking me to do adequately. I really struggled to draw this, although you can see that the ones down the bottom of the page started to get a little better.

I am really fascinated by why the hand struggles to draw what the brain can imagine. For example, I understand this bone, I know what it looks like, but it is very complex, featuring both flat parts and rounded parts, but despite the familiarity, the drawings just do not come out well.

Is this a sign of NOT actually understanding it enough? Or a lack of skill in something else like perspective? Or just a breakdown so ethereal neutrally of the hand not being able to do what the brain wants it to?

The answer might even be a little of all these aspects.

When this happens, it means we need to study the card more frequently, so I will try again in 4 days. I also want to try and add another card on the same part of the skull to see if that helps. We will see if the issue is caused by a lack of understanding of the bone form.

This took 30 minutes, but I spent 1 hour practising using a 2B mechanical pencil on an A4 sketch book.
