I’m on the openSUSE KDE Kalpa which is still an alpha release and its stable enough be to my daily driver! Hopefully, Cosmic Desktop will offer the same experience.

I will definitely test COsmic DE on my laptop when 24.04 hits while my PC stays on the current Pop_os 22.04 for stability.

I like the classic stacked windows in Taskbar paradigm better than having titlebar tabs in windows. XFCE got it right. I hope the make Cosmic modular enough so we can customize these kinds of things. Also, screenshot tools should have at the very least an option for delay and preferably a hotkey for taking the screenshot.

Was pretty interesting to see my other fav distro, Nobara, ditch GNOME for KDE Plasma. Legit reasons too.

One think I want to know is if they will rebase PopOS each non LTS release of Ubuntu, so we would have to reinstall our whole system to get any new feature of the COSMIC. I hope they keep the LTS and keep updating COSMIC and drivers until next LTS, so they can focus on stability and maturity of the DE rather then have to redo a lot of work 2 times each year.

If Gnome gets dethroned, it won't have been soon enough. Taking the padded cell philosophy to illogical extremes meaning that you're so thoroughly trapped that you have to ask for an assistant program to just change the theme, except not really because GNOME uses their own bespoke decorator library.

Like you said it had potential to be the best DE. It would be perfect choice for who want to try tiling but don't want to configure a tiling manager.

I hope they improve the installer and partitioner. Getting other disk formats like btrfs and 2 disk LUKs encryption is a pain on PopOS. It’s why I still use opensuse. Why does PopOS not also encrypt the boot partition if encryption is a big part of PopOS?
