Pool Science with Steve – Sanitation

Welcome to our first installment of Pool Science with Steve! In this video series, our expert Project Manager Steve Reichmuth dives into everything you need to know to keep your pool sparkling. With over 27 years in the pool industry, Steve will be covering Pool Circulation Systems, Pool Filtration Systems, and Pool Cleaning Systems – and making it both fun and informative!

In this video, Steve talks sanitation and the different equipment options available to help keep your pool its cleanest and healthiest. We put our decades of experience to work for you to help you choose the best system possible for your needs and lifestyle. After all, sanitation in your pool is one of our biggest priorities, for water safety and the health of your family. With the help of this series, you don’t need to be a chemistry expert to keep your pool clear, brilliant, and enjoyable for years to come.

Pool Sanitation 101

Sanitation—the essential foundation for a clean, inviting swimming pool. No need to be a chemist, we break down the essentials in easy, understandable terms, so you can get the most out of your pool, with the sanitation system that is right for you.

Chlorine
First, and unsurprisingly, we discuss chlorine, which pools use as a sanitizer. Chlorine works to oxidize the water and helps to kill bacteria, algae, and other unwanted “nasties” in the water. While chlorine is a time-tested and popular option, it is no longer the only choice available. Check out the video for Steve’s explanation of pros and cons.

Salt Water Pool Systems
For those who want to get away from chlorine, another option is a salt water system. Our expert discusses how salt systems work to clean pools, as well as the potential downsides. He dives into what options will work best in Arizona, and what option is most effective.

UV and Ozone Pool Cleaning Systems
UV and Ozone pool cleaning systems offer another alternative that can effectively sanitize your pool without changing the water conditions. Did you know that using one of these systems alone could reduce the need for chlorine by 60%? Even better, when using both UV and an Ozone system together, you can bring your chlorine use down by 80%!

Steve explains why using systems that limit “chloramines”—essentially the byproduct of chlorine that is responsible for a pool’s strong chlorine scent, as well as dry skin, dry hair, and red eyes—are an increasingly popular option.

This installment of our video series helps you learn how to keep your pool at the highest level of “free chlorine,” for optimal sanitization, while keeping “total chlorines,” which create chloramines, low.

Keeping Learning Fun
While this may sound like a lot of scientific jargon, it is actually just a straightforward way to help you make sure you get the most out of your pool and the best swimming experience possible.
