Hot Process Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) Shampoo Soap Bar

Welcome to my ACV Shampoo Soap video! This video demonstrates my take on Liz Ardlady’s famous ACV shampoo bar recipe posted on her Soapy Stuff blog back in 2014. Somehow Liz stumbled on the idea of using vinegar instead of water for the lye solution in her hair washing soap – and it works!

Here are the ingredients I used for this soap:
Lye solution:
120g apple cider vinegar (I used homemade apple vinegar)
70g sodium hydroxide (3% superfat calculated into the recipe)
Oils:
200g canola oil
100g coconut oil
100g olive oil
50g castor oil
25g cocoa butter
25g sunflower oil

Extras:
62g additional ACV to add at the end of the cook
30g essential oil. I used 20g rosemary and 10g tea tree.

This soap can also be made using the cold process soap making method. I just chose to make this one as a hot processed soap.

I had to pause the video, because I couldn't tell if the crickets were outside my window or yours!

From the moment I saw this I wanted to make some. I have very fine hair, I find that this ACV shampoo bar is excellent for my hair and everyone else in my family. No need for conditioner, our hair looks and feels shiny and healthy. Thank you ELLY for your time and expertise, I for one greatly appreciate it.

Thank you for another great video. I'm having a bit of a laugh to myself. I just watched this video with the sound turned off as I often do when I don't want to disturb my husband with the sound. I really enjoyed watching the process and pausing to read the instructions. Not till I read the comments did I know there was no narrative. Ha ha. Your videos are exceptional for their lack of visual and audio clutter. Your instruction is always well prepared and clear. Thank you, again.

Thank you again for showing your step by step guide for shampoo soap making. I love this idea as you dont need to spend a lot of money on shampoo and conditioner, plus there is NO PALM OIL added to the shampoo making, and less land fill. Green Blessings to you always.

You’re a fabulous teacher & the video is clear & precise, makes me want to try this recipe. BUT where’s your lovely voice, kinda miss that. With so much oil in the recipe does your hair feel oily after it dries? And do you have a recipe for hair conditioner? Great job Elly, I always look forward to your videos.

I would be really curious to know if this ends up with a different PH to other soaps. Have you ever tested one of these batches of shampoo soap? Have you used regular soap on your hair before? Is there a noticeable difference to when you use the ACV soap? Also, can you use a lye calculator as normal for making an ACV recipe or it is a different conversion. I am curious because I would think that the ACV would neutralize the lye somewhat making it necessary to use more to be sure that the oils were sufficiently soponified.

Hi Elly! Can you use this recipe for CP soap and let it cure? Just found your Chanel last night I subscribed and watching everything 🤓

I have become addicted to your video's. Started making soap 3 weeks ago and have been using your recipes. Made up my own recipe yesterday with amla oil as a shampoo bar but this one is my next try. Thanks hun.

What is the final pH of the soap? Cause you added some extra ACV at the end and I wonder if it had become lower
(sorry if my grammar is wrong, English is my second language)

Hi Elly. I’ve been enjoying your videos! Would you recommend dedicated equipment for soap making? (One stick blender for soap and one for food?)

Hey Elly! Could you make this soap with CP with the vinegar and lye?
I’m not a fan of the texture of HP, I already wash my hair in home made soap 🧼

Would love to see more shampoo bar recipe videos or this one done as a cold process. I haven't attempted any soap making yet but it's happening very soon! Thanks to your videos

Thanks for the video. I've been making my own CP soap for years. I plan to try this shampoo bar next. I was using my own soap and ACV rinse on my hair but after a few months it seemed dry. I'm hoping this bar does the trick! Where do you purchase your bulk essential oils?

Hi Elly or anyone who has made a hot or cold process shampoo bar. I was wondering if the ph of the soap is within the ph of the scalp 4.5 to 5.5? I have heard that using handmade soap is not ideal for hair because its ph is generally higher i.e. more alkaline.

Hey Elly, I was interested in exchanging some of the oils to tailor this recipe to my specific hair needs. I used the same quantities, however broke them down & substituted. Would like combination and measurements work for this type of soap when cold pressed?
200g olive oil
100 g coconut oil
100g avocado oil
30g castor oil
15g mango butter
10g cocoa butter
25g jojoba oil
20g sunflower oil
