I just did a complete head job on my J32A3. CYL-6 had misfire only during start-up and up to a minute. The oil sample report indicated coolant in it. I did compression test, cooling system pressure test & cooling system exhaust gas test, all of which came out negative. No white smoke from the tail pipe, no bubbling at the radiator filler neck either. My engine has only 230K miles, and I expected a Honda engine to last at least 300K miles without a major work.

I bought new raw heads & transplanted everything else. The head gaskets were intact, but the front head was very slightly beyond limit. There were undeniable traces of coolant seepage on CYL-6. After this back-breaking job, the engine seems to run smoother & quieter. However, I adjusted the valve lash to perfection but compression on CYL-3 went down from 270 PSI to 240 PSI. I rigorously checked all valves & valve seat mating surfaces before installing the heads, and didn't find any issues but here I am. At least the engine is running better than before.

Another thing I noticed during this job is that the EGR port on the J-Series engines is directly connected to CYL-6 (which I'm sure you know), and if the coolant passage gasket fails, it could have misfire on CYL-6 by allowing coolant to enter the EGR port when it opens. Someone experiencing misfire on CYL-6 should check/replace this gasket before removing heads.

BTW, I use angled feeler gauge (available at Amazon) and Blue Point's valve adjusting tool, YA8895. The Blue Point is expensive and there is an alternative at Amazon at a fraction of Blue Point's price. I went with Blue Point because I support U.S manufacturing (and I'm a Japanese native).

Very informative video. Definitely the best I’ve watched out of 10-15 videos. Thank you. ❤

Are the valve cover and spark plug tube gaskets usually okay to re-use?

I had to swap out the front cylinder head due to a broken bolt that messed up one of the holes. I transferred the camshaft, and arm rocker to the new head. After assembling camshaft and arm rocker I can’t rotate the camshaft it is too tight and jumps when I’m trying to rotate it. I need help on this .

What if you can’t fit a feeler gauge underneath? Need to turn the motor? Or valve burnt?

Reading this will help with the misfire codes P1399 if plugs and coils do not clear the code?

When I opened up my valve cover, one of the rocker arm adjustment nuts was not there. Is it OK to use A? Regular bolt or do I need to order from Honda? Oem

Help, please. My car was ticking on idle and ticks louder when im accelerating. The idle tick is gone after replacing the timing tensioner. But it still tick when i accelerate past 1500rpm. Could this be my valves? 2011 pilot.

What is a fair price to get the valves adjusted? Google is saying $250-300, but i see in some forums they can be as high as $600. I really dont want to pay too much to get it adjusted.

I see another video where he cranked the crankshaft to each cylinder prior to adjusting. Does this need to be done?

Hey got a quick question, what is a reasonable price for this job at Honda dealership? I was under the impression I was looking at around 200-300$. I called the Honda place this morning and they quoted me 475$. This is for a 4 cylinder accord. A 2004 model. Does this sound overpriced to you?
