Kate Murphy’s book You’re Not Listening covers all aspects of listening and why the art of listening has taken place in the back seat in recent years. Murphy’s book talks about why listening doesn’t come natural for all of us, the forces that works against quality listening — social media, conditioning and other social factors —- and what we can do to improve our conversations, with that our relationships.

In this book review I share the takeaways, lessons and summarize key concepts I’ve learned from this book. I also share how I implemented the lesson into my life…..and that way discovered a flaw in my hearing!

The beginning of the book initially put me off, but I have found some useful tips worth noting and some thought provoking ideas about the tendency towards monologuing affecting our listening behaviours.
