After deciding that her golden retriever named AJ needed a trip to the dog park, they randomly ran into another dog who looked JUST like AJ in every way. Although the owner didn’t think they had met before, the two dogs took a quick sniff, and immediately started playing together as if they were old friends.

After talking with the owners, they found out that the other dog was actually AJ’s biological brother who was from the same litter when they were born. The owners ended up exchanging information so that they can set up more playdates in the future, making for a heartwarming surprise for both the pups and their humans ❤️

Scent is the canine equivalent of visual recognition. It's crazy how they can tie a smell to any familiar animals or humans even after years. There was a video on YouTube showing a lost dog being reunited with its owners after a prolonged period of time. It was nervous and unsure as it was brought out to them, but the moment it smelled them its whole demeanour changed to frantic excitement and happiness. Amazing to see.

A dog's sense of smell and memory is amazing.

A dog's memory is crazy impressive. They can take in a scent from something, never see it in like years and when they smell that same scent they instantly recognize it. I love dogs...

Research suggests that dogs are able to recognize their siblings and their parents later in life as long as they spent the first 16 weeks together.

That's beautiful. They instantly knew they were siblings. You can only imagine the odds of that happening.

I work at a doggie daycare, and we have a rescue come as a regular, once day we got a new dog who looked just like him and they started going crazy for eachother. After talking to the owners, they were both rescued from the same place and they were the same age, safe to assume they were there together :) very heart warming.

The scent memory of a dog is insane, my dog sniffed out her biological brother from hundreds of yards away when we were at a massive event with hundreds of dogs milling around. She suddenly just started pulling on her leash and led me to a dog that looked exactly like her and they started playing together, and chatting to his owner we found out that they were siblings from the same litter. Despite not having seen each other in 6 or 7 years, they still remembered each other by scent ❤

Same thing happened with my golden but it was at the vet. While mine (who’s a service dog) was in the back still being seen we walked past a dog that looked EXACTLY like him. Down to the way his fur curled only on his spine and everything but we brushed it off. When we went to check out Blue, my trained, well behaved service dog was very curious about this exact copy of him and this was the first time he completely disregarded his job (which he takes very seriously) to full on run up to the dog and same thing, it took one sniff and they both went absolutely bananas. We asked the guy about his dog and where he got it perhaps and turns out it was his biological sister and the only other puppy that stayed with Blue until she was adopted 2 days before we got blue. They were the last 2 in the litter for the longest time and recognized each other from across a vet lobby with tons of other dogs and cats and all kinds of animals. They genuinely do know and can recognize their own siblings

Dogs sniffing is legitimately more efficient than DNA test is 😂
