Programmer thinking 😂 #english #programming #programmer #englishlanguage

How Mike interpreted this: If the condition (the store has eggs) is true, then perform the action "get six."
The action "get six" is ambiguously linked to the first part of the instruction (buying milk), because the object (milk or eggs) isn't repeated for the second part of the instruction.
So when the store had eggs, Mike, following the instructions literally, bought six of the previously mentioned item, which was milk. Yeah, Mike is a programmer 😅 A non-programmer would typically understand that "get six" referred to the eggs, not the milk, because humans often rely on context and implied meanings in communication, while a computer—or a programmer thinking like a computer—requires explicit instructions.

As a programmer, I can confirm that this very well could happen

As a non native english speaker, sometimes it's really difficult to pick up on ellipticals in casual conversations 😂

As the child of two programmers, I can confirm I thought she actually wanted 6 cartons of milk😂

For those who dont get it:
She said "buy a carton of milk and if they have eggs buy six" she meant that buy a CARTON of milk, and if there are eggs buy 6 eggs. But he thought that if he see's egg's he should buy six milk's.

You could have said 'could you buy a carton of milk and half a dozen of eggs if they have some'

I really thought she was telling to buy six packs of milk if they had eggs 😂

As a programmer, I can confirm that this doesn't apply to the programmer but applies to the device we code in 😂

For example: (Python Code)

milk = 0
eggs = 0

def is_there_eggs():
return true

def buy_milk():
global milk

milk =+ 1
if is_there_eggs():
milk += 6

buy_milk()
