I’ve never seen bugs so agile, and sound so good!

Super Beetles handle awesome. I have had my 71 since 1989. These drivers are really good.

Rear wheel drive, engine in the back between the wheels - sounds like a natural rally car to me.

Love the sound of these bugs, especially the red one! It sounds so angry!

That was very exciting and endearing, all at the same time.
The Little Beetle That Could... Lest we forget that 5 Volkswagen Beetle 1200's were entered into the 1954 Carrera Panamericana race of over 3000 kilometers and ALL 5 finished the race.

that is nuts, those things understeer and then out of nowhere hit you in the face with massive oversteer... Huge respect to these guys... BIG BALLS!

*I live in Brazil and own a copy of this type of VW, I have a lot of affection for it and this vehicle has never let me down, even on roads like this as in the video.*

I miss my VW race cars. Well, I still have the last two. Haven't seen the light of day since 1987. They were for oval track racing in Michigan, USA. Also ran some special events in Canada, and Ohio. The older car was built from a '72 Karman Ghia, the last was built from the ground up, a full tube chassis. Mix of Mustang II, and hand - made front suspension, rack and pinion steering, 4wheel disc brakes, coil overs all around, 1835 CCs, twin Weber 44 IDF carbs, heads ported so big it needed custom modified intakes, open Stinger exhaust, only 1688 pounds, the minimum weight required for that engine size. With the weight in the back, set up was a little challenge, but it took off like a rocket with no wheel spin, 10" wide by 13" tires and wheels. That last one was awesome until bad gas wrecked the engine. I want to get a couple of stock engines, just so they move again for antique race car shows.

The mini tank that can do anything regardless of being old, and outdated in technology, it can kick ass! Never underestimate a beetle!

I love it. Reminds me of my 1300 Beetle. The piston had enlarged combustion chamber, 10° negative wheel adjustment in the rear axle and sport shock absorbers. The Beetle was incredibly stable in corners and in crosswinds, great straight-line stability and the speedometer went way beyond the scale. Perfectly precise to drive.

There was a VW Bug engine specialist in my home town in the 70s and 80s. I heard a lot of Bugs with no exhaust to speak of, lol

Listening to these VWs reminds me of my '73 Standard Beetle with 1914 and dual Weber IDFs. That little guy would move right out and sounded great doing it!

In the late early 60s, early 70s I had a ‘68 Beetle, stock except for rear camber compensator and a micro bus clutch. Belonged to local SCCA chapter and ran the Beetle in auto crosses, ice trials, and one or to half-assed local rallies. Drifting was huge fun on snow and ice and dirt. Mine didn’t sound like these machines nor go near as fast, but it was ever such fun.
