Airbnb was not intended to be a business like she’s trying to have. The tax will weed out people like her. The others, that are just trying to supplement or rent out a room here and there will just lower their price to make it worth it for the guest. If she dropped her price $100 dollars a night then the guest doesn’t pay more money… but noooo. She wants a certain amount of profit so she can keep up her lifestyle. She’s looking at this completely backwards

She’s paying 3, 200 and wants to rent it for 6, 200. Now a non-rich family can’t afford to live in her city because of her. Greed really sucks.

I own several rental homes in LA and OC, every realtor under 40 that I met tried to convince me to convert them into STRs. Very glad I didn’t, short term profits with high management costs, politically unfavorable conditions and operating under gray legalities made me stay away. That and every amateur investor under the sun getting into the game made me smell the saturation. Having stayed at some Airbnbs myself, the experience is horrible. I’ve stayed at all inclusive resorts that cost less for a much, MUCH better experience than some mom and pop investor with their live, laugh, love Marshall’s interior special decor.

Hotels need to create more connecting rooms for families if they want to take more business from AirBnB. It’s not 1950 and families are traveling the world. Hotels need to evolve and adjust and not charge 10k for 2 bedroom suites.

Bro, imagine going to the supermarket to buy groceries and at check-out you get charged extra for: self check-out fee, rush hour fee, recycling fee, checkout cleaning fee... That's Airbnb in a nutshell and those that use it like to get it from behind.

For me it's that you got the audacity to charge $575 a night and then charge me a cleaning fee. Where I'm sure there's a laundry list of things that I have to do before I leave your home otherwise you'll charge me even more in cleaning. Get out of here I'm going to go and stay at the Hilton 😂

I have never met a homeowner who was glad to be living next to an AirBnB unless it was another AirBnB.

She is not going to get $6000/mth rent. She can put it up for that price but lose months waiting for a renter. She has no idea. Reminds me of the time when it was trendy for parents with money to buy their kids a franchise and letting them run it.

That cleaning fee is insane, I’ve seen cleaning services go into old peoples homes who have passed away to clean 20 years of dust and whatever, and it doesn’t even cost that much. So if she wasn’t being greedy she could reduce that cleaning fee which would reduce the total tax. But I support her getting rid of her Airbnb because clearly she doesn’t know how anything works

I use a mix of Hotels and AirBnb for travel. AirBnb works well traveling with larger groups and a pet. I'm trending toward hotels for the ease of booking and price transparency. The ridiculous cleaning fees and list of checkout chores should make demanding hosts go out of business.

She didnt go broke because of Airbnb. She went broke because she didnt pay attention to the market. And didnt have a backup plan. Always have another strat for when your plan isnt viable. The market can change all it wants. Change with it, or die out.

Another shitty worse of Airbnbs has been the inconsistent heating in winter. Some places lock their thermostats, others had portable heaters and kept their place colder to save cost. Like seriously? No thanks
