The way he says "families" got me dead. This speech is so craven and unwholesome. I love it.

I wrote an essay in college back in 2005 called “Morning Mass Underneath The Golden Arches” where I looked into the data on why Americans traveling abroad in other countries eat at McDonalds. I thought the title of my essay was cheesy at the time.
Then I saw this movie/clip. I totally didn’t know about how McDonalds got founded at the time.

As despicable as his actions towards the McDonalds brothers were, Ray Kroc was one hell of an entrepreneur

The part that gets me most about this scene was how accurate he was when he pitched this. The McDonald’s logo is up there with as one of the major logos people recognize globally. 88% of the global population knows it. And speaking personally driving along the coast of the US, there’s so many locations and even more billboards advertising the franchise. Yeah, he’s a POS who con’d two brothers out of their ideas/business, but on a macro level— he was right. It was an iconic Fortune 500 business in the making. Its just upsetting the actual McDonald’s brothers were cut out of the grand scheme of it all

And today, those golden arches have become statistically more recognizable than the Christian cross

If the brothers had been flexible they would have still been collecting their .4% which would’ve been in the neighborhood of 40 million a year instead of the handshake basis for the 1%. Everyone seems to forget that Kroc did EVERYTHING and was still about to lose his house and the brothers were content just doing their thing and didn’t care. That’s when he met Sonneborn. That’s how karma works. And his wife as well. And she gave it all back to charity. People need to stop looking for character flaws in everyone else (especially those who achieve greatness) because things are not always so black and white. Everyone has the potential to act good or badly and circumstance dictates an immense amount. The brothers were being rigid to the point of unreasonable, Kroc was about to lose his home, someone comes in and says “here’s how to make money hand over fist.” Kroc was definitely bitter towards the brothers after everything he put into it and how little he got back and that affected his nature, but the man still believed in something and gave all of himself to make it work. Not too many people find something that inspires them so much that they would drive 1/4 of the way across the country just to look at a building. Yes he was ruthless but he tried to play the straight and narrow and still was about to be put on the street. Can’t judge anyone til walking in their shoes. And the brothers still got what today would’ve been 20 million. One million in 1960 is over eight million today. Let that sink in. After the brothers left him high and dry over a couple of percents to help him survive I don’t blame him for not giving them their one percent. They came out plenty wealthy for doing nothing regardless.

If they make a movie about Curtis Sliwa from the Guardian Angels, Michael Keaton looks like a great choice.

What I hate is the warm lilted lettuce I get with my hot burger. Why can't a burger place keep my cold stuff cold and my hot stuff hot. There must be a solution, some kind of a special tray that has a warm side and a cold side. It's genius, I don't know why no one has ever thought of this before, we'll be rich. Call me!

Nah, I don't think the golden arches will catch on. It'll probably just be another fad like that rock n roll music.

Jesus heard this and got to work designing a custom made circle of Hell for Ray Kroc. That kind of blasphemy can doom your soul.

So McDonaldism is a new Christian denomination?

I'm glad I'm an atheist. Because the golden arches still mean food, folks, and fun. Whereas religious symbols mean boredom, stupidity, and starvation. I love being an atheist!

If he'd failed to take over, would America have such an obesity problem, and would a healthier population be more motivated and energetic and thus more intelligent as well?

An interesting counter-concept of this arose in the McDonald's Thailand market. When the jointventure between McDonald's corporation and a Thai enterpreneur expired in 2003, the Americans tried play smart by continuing the operations without their local partnership, guess what happened, they found themselves unable to expand the business and maintaining the same level of profitability and ending up selling 70% of their majority stakes to a consortium of Thai investors in 2006. This exact scenario also played out for Pizza Hut and PepsiCo in Thailand.

I didn't like this movie. Just another attempt to demonize someone. Hollywood as usual, waited to make the movie realizing Kroc couldn't sue the producers today because he died in the mid-eighties.
