WORLD SAILING SPEED RECORD ON WATER

Much more than a sporting record, a global challenge for a very actual concern. 🌍

Syroco’s purpose is to achieve pioneering feats, catalysts for innovation, in support of a sustainable transition.

Our first achievement: shatter the world sailing speed record.

The bar is set at 150 kph!

For which purpose? Invent carbon-free transportation to minimise damage to the sea, and by extension to the environment. The goal is clear. It is now up to us.

"Kph" is not an accepted unit or abbreviation for speed measurement. It should have been "km/h".

Fantastic to see you having a go at this.
I gave the idea some thought many years ago, not to break the speed record but to elevate the hull to clear large waves and maintain speed.
Do you expect the craft to be limited to smooth water or will it be able to handle ocean waves? Also have you tested any scale models.

Great idea! I would like to ask a kestion, is the foil upsidedown?

At what point do these designs actually stop being sailing vessels and eligible for speed records? Very little of this whole design is in the water, and not supported by the water in any way, it is merely "anchored" by way of the foil. Would a hang glider travelling at speed above the surface, dragging a low resistance object in the water be classified as a "sailing vessel"? A silly example of course, but really, how far away from that ridiculous example is this sail powered vehicle?

Just another version of the Vestas Sail Rocket, except there is only a foil in the water. It might be hard to claim a speed record for a boat if the hull's not touching the water, (then it's not a boat)- maybe for a fancy wing surfer.

A practical version exist, on the last page of the book" The 40 knot Sailboat" by Smith

One question: what happens if the foil ever breaks the surface? 😳
