My Turo rental nightmare

For my birthday, last fall I wanted to rent a Porsche to drive around for the weekend. It was my very first time renting a car from the Turo car rental service, and it definitely didn't go the way I thought it would... in fact I would call it a rental nightmare. Join me for some story time as I explain what happened with the Porsche Cayman that I rented from Turo. Now I don't know if I would ever rent a car from Turo again. What do you think, if this happened to you, would you rent a car from Turo again? Has something similar happened to you? Share your car rental horror stories with me in the comment section below.

Great story, ask questions as to the last maintenance and by who. Always get insurance. But it is not enough to discard Turo: it is a great economical saving process and also, renting with Enterprise or Hertz does not guarantee accident-free.

I recognized you at Jacks Restaurant after the SMCC meet. Big fan of your channel! Informative and entertaining stuff. Glad you're ok! Would love to go on a drive with ya someday 👍

This guy is too detailed. 😂 Picachu has been looking like he is tired of listening.

Glad you survived. Not good when you see one of your wheels passing you by! Someone could have easily ended up dead. The car owner should be thanking God no one did.

I got a 170 mile tow once in the middle of nowhere in Montana. The crazy tow truck driver was fighting with his wife on the phone the whole drive. He only charged $2/mile. And, incredibly, my insurance covered the bill even though it was a mechanical breakdown not an accident.

Oh my God I'm glad you're okay.
Regular rental companies like Enterprise check their cars thoroughly and typically will not have any more than 2 years old I think.
The mismatched tires would be a clue on such an expensive car. I see a lot of people buying cars cheap just to rent. I can't imagine they worry about servicing it.
Also anyone that is going to be renting out a car like that and the headache it brings must be broke(living beyond their means)*also you should have ubered home and left the car there that's not your responsibility it was pretty existing

Great story. I wasn't worried about the accident. Was more worried about the repair fees that I thought you'd be paying. At least the owner was very apologetic and honest.

saw you at Jack's today!
Turo now charges a lot service fees and it goes up based on the models, if you rent a Alfa 4c, the service fee is going to be almost as same as the rental fee itself.

Insane story, P. I have thought about renting from Turo for similar reasons, to try out a car I always wanted to drive, and potentially own. After watching the video and reading the comments, I'm definitely second guessing it. Great perspective to take away from the experience though. Things could have been much worse.

He could’ve possibly billed you if he had an ounce of bad in him.

What no one mentions is that AAA and I’m sure many other insurance agencies will not cover their insured, when renting with Turo. Just found out for a trip I’m taking next week.

And Turo’s insurance prices are stupid extortion expensive. Like $1500 a month is what it can come up to if averaged out.

This is hard to believe!, how could you drive all the way there fine without noticing anything wrong from the rear wheel? It takes long for a wheel to completely fall off before the bolts became loose, and showed some signs! Even the bolts should look different before you took off if the wheel is mounted improperly! Also, it requires all bolts to break to loose the wheel! I still can't believe how this can happen?

Sounds to me like the lug nuts just weren't properly torqued.
