In this video I talk about which line of ratchets I would choose if I could only have one line of ratchets. There is really no wrong choice.

Cool. My three favorite ratchets in service (at the moment). GW 120xp 3/8 flex head long handle, pp 3/8 flex head long handle, and pp 1/2 flex head long handle. I also collect and restore vintage ratchets (Snap-on, Proto, SK, Herbrand, Bonney, Craftsman, etc.) and other hand tools.

Great video. The gearwrench 120xp is a hard ratchet to not pick up. It always finds its way to my hand.

Thanks for the vid, I purchased a set of those exact three Snap On ratchets with a tray on eBay back in 2003 I think. I still love em! I worked at a dealer and couldn’t afford what was on the tool truck! I paid barely over 100 bucks! They are my go to ratchets and also my go to wrenches are a set of GearWrenches.

Keep up the good work brother!

It's funny, I have all kinds of ratchets from various brands but I find myself always picking up my late 90s USA Craftsman. It's not fancy. Not a high tooth gear. But I beat the crap out of it and never think about it breaking. Feels good in the hand. Could just be familiarity.

Great explanation and very detailed. I agree with the recommendation that gear wrenches are top notch. I will add that the HB Pittsburgh Pro’s are great. My only complaint on them is I wish the selector switch had more positive engagement - tends to move when bumped against something. At some point I will treat myself to a Snap on ratchet. But for all the work I do, GearWrench is a winner.

Thanks for the video Dave. That is a varied selection of ratchets to compare, from the most basic to the professional line.
Well done.

Love my snap on but like you said they cost an arm and a leg so I only have one because I need my other arm and leg to work

Hey sir ty for your post. Im an old s-k guy. I do have the gearwrench regular and stubby. Some no name I gave one to a kid. A couple of parts store's are selling pt. Tools and I find them pretty good. My kinda beater ratchet in half inch is a autocraft. I like the new style Craftsman. The 1/4 is my new go to ratchet. And I did buy a couple snap-on socket sets Wich came with two free ratchets

You've gotta try a proto 5249, large head and pretty low tooth count but it's so buttery smooth and you're not going to break it.
Sure it's old technology, but there's a reason the design has been unchanged since the 1930's.

That's a lot of ratchets! Lol. Great video. The gear wrench is in my future and hopefully snap on eventually.

tekton has a newer design 90tooth, and now even comfort grip ratchets..

Gearwrench is now my choice if I need anymore work ratchets. Snap On seems interested in taking my money but not very interested in warranties anymore. Honestly I trust my XP120 as much or more than my Dual 80 ratchets and I have used both everyday for years. I love my dual 80 ratchets but I paid $120-$236 for each of my Snap On's. I paid $40 each (or less) for my XP120's. Also the Pittsburgh Pro ratchets have surprised me as to how much work I can put them through for such a cheap price and a great warranty.

The newer tekton ratchets are 90 tooth now and low profile and I like them over gear wrench bc I warranty issues with them
