Stay cool, keep control, there's no magic solution, I think you must combine different strategies, surprised them, do unexpected things. One thing it works for me, I do when it's a rainy or windy day and kids have are out of control, yelling, running around... I start having a conversation with the blackboard, or a table, a chair. Then you wait for the click, for that student that spots what's going on and says to another one, is he talking to the blackboard ? And then, in few seconds all pupils are looking at you and listening to the conversation, then I finish with the board, saying, thanks for listening to me, nice chat, take care, and I get back with the students. Real story, it works for me !

I have noticed that the silence treatment works with teenagers and raising your voice works better with very young learners. I send students out in isolation with a worksheet so they cannot play or talk with their classmates but they still have to do the work. I warn them that is going to happen though.

Students gauge their temperament based on a teacher's mood. Students already have stress in their own lives. Staying even tempered is key. Great tips! 😊🍎

You are helping us so much thank you a lot for your advice! My first day of teaching kids younger than 9 years old was such a disaster i had totally lost the control .They were fighting, shouting and one of them was denying for fun anything I was trying to say
or others were standing up to go out of the class. Also, there was a girl who couldn't stand that mess that she was trying to help me to take back the control of the class by saying to me which kids were noisy and by giving me the bottle of water which belonged to another girl that was making noise with it . Instead of doing these tricks I was trying all the time to separate the kids who were fighting for fun each other and to raise my voice but the situation was a mess and I remember I was ready many times to cry and I believe that kids, when they were looking at me that day, they were thinking " such a desperate teacher who cant control her own class".

I've observed a lot of teachers and I've seen a variety in action. I've noticed teachers who are overly strict, uptight, or otherwise yell the most are the ones who have the worst-behaved classes. Especially when the students learn the teacher is all bark and no bite. Kids will see through that in a heartbeat.

I am also an English teacher who is strugglling with a few of the classroom with management. There are always students who has been sent there by force and not willing to participate. They are not listening whatever I do. I will use your techniques and write down the results. Thanks 😁

Thank you so much for sharing this Sir Eric! It relates to situations we pass through daily in class, when my class gets legit noisy, I always use the counting technique 🙃 saying the numbers from 1 to 5, somehow it works everytime, and I don't end up shouting, watching all your videos are such a major help Eric, really appreciate them! God bless you Amen.

Shout works! it has, there is a year 9, a nightmare for the whole school, bit we have cameras installed, and if they continue parent meeting is called, and they are told so. suspension works.

their behaviour is improved by 50%.
now, i dont need to shout anymore, there are other things such as trouble makers not sitting next to each other. and a fixed arrangement.

Mind you this class was something out of a horror book, abd caused many teachers to leave.
