As a university student both devices are extremely useful but at the end of the day the iPad is a complement to the MacBook. I use my iPad as my notebook and the fact that all my notes transfer seamlessly between all my devices is incredible and life changing, coupled with the fact that I just bring my 11 inch iPad everywhere instead of a bunch of paper notebooks, but I could and would never write entire essays on it or research for long periods of time, which is why the MacBook, or any computer for that matter, is essential and why an iPad is not

As someone who got the iPad Pro 11” about last year, I have to say as simply a college student, it’s perfect. I’m not a big fan of macOS but wanted a note-taking and portable typing device, the iPad Pro has met my every expectation. I use a Windows for pretty much everything else I need but I primarily use the iPad Pro for everything school related so far and it’s great.

I wish the iPad would have the file management of the macbook and also the full external monitor support.

Wow this was weird.... I saw the title and said “Wait, I already saw this....” But then I realized you posted this after Max Tech did and it’s the exact same topic lol.

This is a great video 👌🏼 I’m currently using the iPad Pro 11 inch with cellular and 1tb of storage as my only work device, and there are certainly a lot of software limitations when it comes to using it as your primary device. However, I feel like a hugely underrated aspect of the iPad that both you and max tech missed out on when making this comparison is portability.

The iPad Pro can literally be used anywhere, anytime, with zero compromises in terms of performance no matter what size you choose. I’ve used it to go on zoom meetings in the jungle (my carrier has unbelievable range), I can download and playback Netflix on the go, your workflow doesn’t even take a hit where there isn’t much space (i.e on an airplane), and while the battery life is nowhere near as good as an M1 Mac, I haven’t had to worry about battery life ever since the initial purchase of my device.

All this on a device that can edit 4k video footage without a single hiccup, with a footprint the size of a traditional paper notebook. Sure, they weigh about the same weight, but the iPad feels noticeably easier to carry around on a day to day basis. With all that being said, its certainly not for everybody, especially more “pro” users, and the MacBook lineup is about to get a whole lot better.

Solid reviews, as always 👌🏼

Hey Gary, your coverage of the M1 MacBooks helped me jump ship and buy a MacBook Air.
I'd love it if you post a tips and tricks video for new Mac users.

For productivity - M1. No Question.

For an enjoyment computer, iPad Pro or Air. If mobile handheld gaming or screen size is a priority, Pro. Otherwise, Air. For an artist or pencil user - iPad. For a mobile musician - iPad. For a studio Musician - M1 but check for latency and compatibility issues before buying. If photography is a priority iPad Pro. For a primary device for a capitalized student or working professional - M1. For a primary device for a broke student - basic iPad A12 - 32gb/128gb with a 3rd party keyboard and a bt mouse (and a logitech crayon if needed). Basic iPad will do everything you need, its a giant iPhone XR and will even game well on higher settings. Apple silicon is the way. Alternately, iPad Mini 64gb works if you prefer a device you can carry in your jacket pocket and want a prettier screen. If I was a poor student I'd use the mini with a 3rd party keyboard and a logitech crayon and my class note taking and essay writing tool, saving my intel based laptop for home. I'm a pocket computer fan though, not everybody is...Next gen iPad mini is going to be dope - I'll probably buy one myself despite already having a 2020 Pro12.9...

Anyways, For a retiree or casual user, Air4 or Pro12.9... Pro12.9 doesn't always fit in the glovebox of a car and dropping it once even with a case, probably means breaking it forever fyi... so for a retiree or a casual user, probably the Air4.

Finally! I wanted to see someone do this comparison especially in the 4K video editing lumafusion on the iPad Pro and the m1 and Final Cut Pro, which one struggles... my iPad Pro 2020 handles 4K flawlessly

Currently writing on my M1 macbook air, one thing to note with the battery is that if you've got it hooked up to a 2nd monitor, it will kill the battery, especially if brightness is up to 100%. That being said, in the 1 week in which ive owned it, it hasn't ever got below 20% (ive charged it about 4 times)

Great video. I have an ip[ad pro 11" with the Magic Keyboard and until today a MacBook Air M1 until my wife took it. So, now I have the MacBook Pro M1 and thinking about selling the iPad Pro. Your video helped. Thanks.

Hey what do you think of the new iPad air and the m1 mac mini for a budget productivity setup.

I’m sure someone’s already mentioned this to you, but the A12Z is basically two generations older than the M1 in the same class. That’s a good part of the reason I don’t have the new iPad Pro: it launched with the A12Z instead of the as yet unannounced A14X, which would be the same CPU and GPU as the M1.

For me it’s definitely the screen first. Cause the screen is what we consumers will interact first then amongst the other aspects.

If your workflow revolves around working with a number of different documents simultaneously, i.e. some data comes from different sources, you can't really work comfortably on iPad.

If you need to work with one or two data sources, you answer letters write scripts/articles. iPad is a way to go.

But, oh man. This battery life on m1 MacBook Air is superb. It took me through whole day without recharging. While I used to often sit plugged in with my iPad.

It's a really hard decision for me but in the end the deciding factor was portability and versatility so I am getting the ipad air 4.

Recently I've sold my iPad Pro 12.9 2020, and plan on getting MB Air M1 somewhere in 2021. 6 months of usage didn't convince me that "your next computer isn't a computer"angle that Apple tried to promote.
