Показать описание
Since October 10, 2022, Russian attacks across Ukraine have destroyed 30% of power stations according to Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
💥 Intensified 🇷🇺 Russian strikes on 🇺🇦 Ukrainian infrastructure have resulted in 30% of the country’s power plants being taken offline, say Ukrainian President Zelenskyy
🔺 The strikes come after the explosion on the Kerch Bridge and the appointment of a new commander of the Special Military Operation, Sergei Surovikin
🔺 Intensified calls for Western governments to supply state-of-the-art air defences to Ukraine

The destruction of Ukrainian energy infrastructure is part of intensified Russian missile strikes following the supposed Ukrainian attack on the Crimean Kerch Bridge earlier this month (October 8, 2022).
They also follow the recent appointment (October 9, 2022) of Army General Sergei Surovikin as commander of the ‘Special Military Operation’. Surovikin came to prominence in Syria as commander of the Russian intervention in the civil war, where he led an air bombardment campaign that marked the turning point in the Syrian government’s fortunes.
The attacks are driven by cruise and surface-to-surface missiles, as well as Iranian UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles)—in particular the Shahed-136 ‘kamikaze’ drone. Russia has allegedly purchased thousands of Iranian drones, as well as an unquantified amount of short-range ballistic missiles. Members of the European Union (EU) have threatened Iran with sanctions for supplying Russia.
In response, Ukraine has increased its call for Western governments to supply class-leading air defence systems. What will be supplied and the significance of these strikes on the war remains to be seen.
