AMEN!!! I have four grown kids who were raised to work and take care of themselves (and be great spouses to help around the house, etc). I love them just as much as those who want to baby their kid, but they need to have their own sense of pride and accomplishments!!

Hardest thing to do as a parent and stepping to the side and allowing our kids to make mistakes and learn. But I promise it’s worth it!

I am the wife of a man with a mother like this and I’m telling you buying him a house is bad idea. He gets a guilt trip any time he considers moving. There’s a lot more she does also. Like this woman saying “he can’t…” I don’t see that as love, I see it as control.

She honestly didn't call for advice, she called to make excuses and justify the foolishness.

Why do the parents never admit they're the reasons why their kid is this way?

Dave is so correct here. Part of being a good parent is "making" them do it on their own. The inheritance will come later, after he's established and did it on his own.

One of the hardest things to figure out as a parent is when and how to help your adult children. It truly is a prayer-guided balancing act. I'm all for helping my boys, but Dave's right to a certain extent: not all aid is beneficial. My parents helped me and my new wife get onto our feet, and it was very beneficial, and they new how much to aid us without making them our safety blanket. I'm trying to learn that fine line with my sons.

Give someone their inheritance early…that worked so well with the Prodigal Son 🤦‍♂️

I got a cery good example of this. When I was little, my mum was set on me learning to play badminton. She decided it was the sport everyone should know. I have a disability which comes with sever delays of fine and gross motor development. Even after years of physical therapy there are things I physically can't make my body do. I can't play guitar, and I CAN NOT play BADMINTON. When I was little I first thought "sweet now other kids won't laugh at me in PE class". Buuut...very soon I discovered it wasn't going to happen. And I couldn’t get out of it because my mum wouldn’t stop making me play. This guy is the same, until his mum stops trying to help (but really harm) he's never going to have a good life. Everything about my summer holidays got better when my mum said we didn't have to play badminton on the lawn again.

There’s a fine line between helping and enabling.

What if you don't have a gown son as a man but a grown son as a man?

I have been on both sides of this and Dave is 100% right. You need to learn to make your way and make mistakes on the way to grow.

How do people who can’t double check a headline end up on the Dave Ramsey team and I couldn’t even get an interview?
